It had been years since I had last been to this town, about three years I guess. When I was last here I had just run away from home, and ran deep into the woods. I had heard rumors of two wolves, one black and one white, standing at the edge of the woods every night at sunset looking as if they were waiting for someone. These rumors are what lured me back to this town.
I knew those wolves. To this day I could still remember what they looked like. I smiled as I stood on the edge of the woods waiting for them to return. I had kept myself from coming back for three years, but finally I couldn’t resist. I needed to see them. In three years, I had made a life for myself. I have started college and worked as a waitress at the local diner in the town I currently reside in. I was able to find a place to take me in and help me get on my feet and graduate high school. My parents never found me until I decided to return home when I turned eighteen. They were happy to see me, but I did get lectured for never calling.
I’m happy now, and that’s all that matters.
The sun started to set and I smiled as I looked into the woods. I could see two sets of eyes staring at me. One set was green, while the other set was blue. I smiled and walked towards the woods slowly. My wolves where finally back.
“Hey, boys.”
Both wolves stepped out of the woods before transforming into humans. “Rain?” the green eyed man asked.
I smiled, “Hey, River.”
“You came back,” this time it was the man with blue eyes.
“Of course I did, Raven.”
River smiled at me, but Raven glared at me. “You think you can just walk back into our lives after leaving for three years?”
I gave a soft smile, “Sorry, Raven. I meant to come back. I wanted to come back. I had things I needed to do first.”
“Calm down, Rave, she’s back.” River put a hand on his friends shoulder and he smiled at me.
Raven shook his head, “It doesn’t matter, she still left.”
“I had to leave. If I didn’t I wouldn’t have survived. On top of that I needed to leave before my feelings got the best of me.”
“Yeah, I know. You loved us.” Raven looked away from me, a hurt expression on his face.
I walked over to the boys and smiled up at Raven, “I still do.”
Raven looked down at me, tears in his eyes, “Why did you leave?”
“You knew I had to. I needed to leave otherwise I would have died.”
Raven shook his head before he quickly grabbed me and pulled me into a hug, “Don’t leave again, please?”
I smiled and hugged the sad boy back, “I can’t live in the woods, Raven.”
Raven pulled away and this time River hugged me, “We can live with you.”
I pulled away from River and looked at the two boys, “You can’t you have the pack.”
“We don’t have a pack anymore. We left about three months ago.” Raven looked down and shook his head.
I looked at both boys shocked, “Why?”
“We didn’t feel like we belonged,” River replied and smiled at me.
I shook my head, “You both are fools.”
“Yeah, fool for you.” Raven laughed and I smiled at him.
“I guess if you want to live with me you can.”
They smiled, “That sounds great.”
I hugged both boys again and smiled. I missed my boys and I know they missed me. I took both their hands and lead them to my car. They got in and I smiled as I got into the driver’s seat. I needed these two in my life. I knew it was going to take a while for them to get used to my life and living as humans, but I know they can do it. We were going to start our lives, and this was where we were going to start.
