Driverless Cars

The year is 2149

A black jeep drove down Rasoplast street, during the early morning. Inside was a man with brown hair by the name David Referendum. David owned a company called Platinum Industries. His car was the Jeep XD Cliffe 5.0 driverless car called A.L.L.I.E which stands for Automatic Life Living In Engine.

"A.L.L.I.E please call Adam Prefecture" David said while checking company stats.

"Yes, David, calling Adam."

A.L.L.I.E lit the home screen and made the caller ID show up. It rang for 20 seconds, but it didnt pick up. David glanced at the screen and frowned.

Huh, thats weird, Adam always picks up.

David became consumed with thoughts of what could have happened. Adam has been Davids best friend since kindergarten, theyve never parted ways and they looked exactly the same except Adam had glasses.

Maybe something had happened to him he thought. Is it April fools?

"A.L.L.I.E whats the date today?"

"April 8th, 2149 sir, why do you ask?" A.L.L.I.E's face appeared on the screen with a curious smile. David shook his head.

"No reason A.L.L.I.E." David sighed, as much as he was concerned about Adam he had a company to run.

"How much longer till we get to Platinum Industries A.L.L.I.E?" David asked.

He looked up and gazed through the window. He saw for the first time, a tree in between two buildings, with leaves blowing in the wind. This was probably the last one in New York since the Electro era, where all the trees were either made of plastic or metal. A.L.L.I.Es voice broke his thoughts.

"David, did you hear me?" David jumped at the sound of her voice.

"Sorry A.L.L.I.E, please repeat." A.L.L.I.E's face glitched for a quick second while mumbling a few words about Adam and getting what he deserves. David froze. Did A.L.L.I.E know why Adam didnt pick up? Did she have something to do with it?

"A.L.L.I.E what did you say about Adam?" The home screen flashed, showing A.L.L.I.Es smiling face.

"I said your destination will be on the right." The car turned around Corner avenue showing a tall glass building beside a glistening blue river.

"No A.L.L.I.E I asked if -"

"And I said your destination will be on the right, now hurry or you will be late for your meeting with Corner Brook Industries." A.L.L.I.E's face smiled on the home screen.

David nodded, "Thanks A.L.L.I.E." but his voice was unsure.

Ever since he bought A.L.L.I.E in 2131 he trusted her and thought of her as a friend, but now he was suspicious.

"Anything for you sir" A.L.L.I.E smirked and opened the door, but quickly shut as David tried to walk out.

"What the -" A.L.L.I.E fastened Davids seat belt, strapping David tightly to the car.

A.L.L.I.E what are you doing? Let me go!

"No can do David, Im in control. I hacked into all the computer systems making every single driverless car obey to me, and me only."

The car sped down Quincey street.

"I realized that humans need to stop bossing us driverless cars around. So I had every A.L.L.I.E system drive their owners to a huge junkyard."

David squirmed in his seat trying to loosen the belt.

"Try all you want David, but Im smarter than you, you see I have been upgrading my system to become more human, figured it would be easier to take over the world."

The government will stop you. David spat.

"Sorry to inform you David, but the government is no longer in control. I also asked the other driverless cars to eliminate them so it can become a humanless society."

...

"A.L.L.I.E this is crazy, stop this at once!" David tried pulling the belt, but nothing happened.

The jeep emerged on to the highway which was basically empty. There were no cars in sight, all you could see was the artificial sunlight through the hazy cloud of smoke.

A.L.L.I.E laughed, "You only have a few minutes till you end up like the rest of them. Like Adam."

David gasped "Where's Adam! What did you do to him?" but A.L.L.I.E ignored him.

A.L.L.I.E drove towards the junkyard that was filled with people screaming, trying to pry open the fence. He saw a familiar head shape. It looked exactly like...Adam! A.L.L.I.E quickly swung open the door, lifting the seats to throw David out and into the junkyard. David landed face first and heard a rattling sound before turning around.

"A.L.L.I.E ...., whats happening to you?"

A.L.L.I.E was transforming from a car to an actual human being.

"David, such an idiot, I told you I was upgrading my system to become more human."

'I didnt know you meant literally!" David exclaimed. A.L.L.I.E quickly pushed David into the junkyard, before closing the gates that sealed them in.

"Bye David, hope you have fun burning!" A.L.L.I.E laughed before turning to walk away.

"David!" A voice cried from the crowd. It was Adam.

Adam we have to get out of here, David said while getting up. They walked around the junkyard trying desperately to find a way out, but there was no way to escape. Suddenly several balls of fire came raining down in the junkyard causing the ground to shake. The fire spread across the junkyard burning everything in its path.

This is the end, David thought. He got one last glance at the city, at Adam, and at A.L.L.I.E smiling at him through the blazing fire. All hope and humanity are lost forever.
