• Tales of Melancholy takes place in a world where most of the population is born with a magical ability. These abilities are 100% unique to the person in possession of it.
• All the magic in the world comes from a plane of existence separate from the overworld called The Magic Realm. The Magic Realm is protected by the it's creators, The Empty and The Energy.
• Magicals (people with magical abilities) are able to access The Magic Realm through a soul bond. A soul is crucial to using a magical ability. Its what links a person to The Magic Realm.
• The Magic Realm doesn't have a concrete appearance, it appears differently for everyone.
• In The Magic Realm, a person's magic will personify into some sort of animal. It could be a mythical or normal animal. (Ex. Edith's magic personifies into butterflies)
• When a person dies, their soul enters The Magic Realm for a period of time. After the time expires, the soul is brought to it's final resting place. (This actually comes into play when Gale has to resurrect Alainium and Julian. Gale can basically bring a soul back to the overworld, though he can only do this if the soul is still in The Magic Realm.)
• Non-magicals can also access The Magic Realm if they have been trained in the ways of magic. (Ex. Roxanne is non-magical, but she can access The Magic Realm because she's been taught how to use magic.)
