6th September 1971
Lily picked up her books and ran to catch up with Severus, her best friend. He'd been a bit distant lately and Lily was determined to find out what was wrong, but he kept changing the subject.
"Sev just tell me, what's bothering you"
As predicted he avoided the question.
"Isn't it odd that that Lupin boy has already been home? It's barely been a week..."
"Sev."
"What?"
He gave Lily his puppy eyes. Lily couldn't say no to them.
Or maybe she could.
"Sev, stop it , what's wrong you keep avoiding my questions , I'm only trying to watch out for you."
Now it was Lily's turn for puppy eyes. Severus could really never say no to her puppy eyes. Her eyes were so bright you would think they were emeralds.
Severus let out a long sigh.
"Fine."
Lily smiled in anticipation.
"It's , it's that Potter guy, he keeps making fun of me."
Lily was horrified. She had been so nice to James Potter, he was difficult not to like with his silly grin and funny glasses, but he had crossed a line. Severus was her best friend.
———————————
"Hi Lily!"
James smiles eagerly as Lily Evans approached him. She was so pretty. She had long red hair, she was small and looked very nice to hug and the best part was she had the prettiest eyes, green like an apple lollipop.
He was so pleased to see her he didn't even notice the scowl on her face.
"So Lily, I was wondering , well it was Sirius' idea really, but well, you're so pretty that I would love it if you were my girlfriend.."
Lily stopped walking. Girlfriend ?!
Firstly , she was only eleven, secondly she was way too busy with school (magic was a lot harder than it seemed) and thirdly and most importantly, he had made fun of her best friend.
Girlfriend.
He could dream.
She realised that she had been staring with her mouth open and promptly closed it. She cleared her throat, James was jiggling with excitement.
"No." She said clearly.
"No?" James' shoulders practically dropped to the floor.
"No, I will not be your girlfriend."
"Wh-why not?" James was distraught. This was not how the conversation was meant to go.
"Because , I don't want to date, and if I did it wouldn't be with a bully."
She turned on her heel and stormed down the hall.
This was not the reaction James had been expecting.
Him?
A bully?
The only person James was ever slightly mean to was that Snape person.
James smacked his hand to his forehead. He had completely forgotten that the greasy haired Slytherin, was Lily's best friend.
How could he forget !?
This however did not stop James from trying again and again to make Lily Evans his girlfriend. He desperately tried to right his wrongs , but it wasn't that easy. Snivellus( credits to Sirius for that name) was so annoying , James hated him. Not only was he rude about Gryffindor and everyone in it , but Lily didn't seem to care. It hurt James that Lily could like someone like Snivellus over himself. James decided however, not to change, everyone else seemed to like him so Lily would come around eventually. In the mean time he would just check every now and then if she had changed her mind.20th September 1971

"Evanssss come on you know you love me"
"Potter, I would rather marry the giant squid than go on a single date with you, you disgust me."Something snapped in James that day. Lily really hated him. And he hated her for it. He would change, but not for Lily, out of spite.
Something during the plan went wrong however which takes us to 8th of October , 1977.
The day that Evans finally gave in , and James couldn't have been happier.
He was a real gentleman to her, and Lily grew to really like him, not love him, at least, not yet...
We are getting ahead of ourselves.
