Flashback

Maddie goes to the cremest to buy a ticket, walks in and sits on the counter in front of Clay. “Well hello to my favorite friend.”

“Aren’t I your only friend?”

“Aw you think so highly of yourself cause if anything I’m your only friend.”

“What about Kat?”

“She’s moving in a month.” She looks around. “So where’s the new girl?”

“She’s in the back right now.”

“Are you planning on going to her party tonight?”

“Are you only going because you're hoping Kat will bring a certain basketball player’s gonna be there?”

“Um, I’m pretty sure Jeff plays baseball.”

He rolls his eyes. “Oh so we’re still pretending.”

She playfully pushes him. “I’m not pretending. I mean have you seen Jeff? He’s like the definition of perfection.”

“Really because I feel like it wasn’t for Kat your answer would be a lot different.”

“I mean maybe. But it doesn’t matter.”

“It doesn’t sound like it doesn’t matter.” He says as he turns around handing her a bucket of popcorn.

“Well it doesn’t. He’s with Kat so just drop it.” She gets up off the counter and takes the bucket of popcorn.

~~~
Kat was throwing one last party before she left so of course Maddie had to be there. She walked in seeing Clay Jensen actually at a party for once in his life.
“Hey Clay. You actually came.” She looks around. “Am I the only one seeing you cause I think I’m hallucinating.”
He pushed her lightly away. “Oh shut up.”
Maddie and Clay both looked up seeing Kat and the new girl walking down the stairs. “Clay here.”
“I win!” The girl looked at Kat. “You owe me five dollar.”
“Aww come on Kat you bet on Clay without me. That’s so unfair.”
Clay looked at Kat and Hannah. “You bet on me?”
“Against you.” She corrected Clay.
“I was the one that bet on Clay to come. My name’s Hannah.”
“Wasn’t the last party Clay went to was your birthday party.”
She scoffed. “Yeah in the fourth grade.”
He nodded. “I still remember that clown.”
Maddie put a hand on Kat’s shoulder. “Oh my god wasn’t he like a heroin addict or something like that?”
“Yep. My mother, the social worker, hired a recovering heroin addict. He had the shakes. Okay uh, drinks come on.”
He shrugged. “I just thought he was nervous.”
Maddie rolls her eyes. “Yeah not everyone’s as scared as you Clay.”
Clay looks around seeing that most of the school was there. “Uh this is quite a turnout. People must be happy to see you go.”
