"Well I must say," you speak up, "when you invited us along for dinner, I didn't expect it to be for your parents' anniversary dinner."
Tuff gives you a big smile and a laugh as he looks over at you and Meta Knight.
"Sorry, we probably should have told that's what it was for beforehand," Tiff apologizes. "I guess it is rather unusual for people to invite kids and friends to their anniversary dinners."
Sir Ebrum and Lady Like, the couple celebrating, had invited you along. You were a friend of the family, often lending Tiff, Tuff, and Kirby a helping hand, especially when Dedede was up to no good. Meta Knight, who was sitting next to you at the far end of the table, had been invited separately. And you certainly didn't mind sitting next to him, since he was your boyfriend. There was one thing, though.
Everyone else was not aware of that fact.
You and Meta Knight had been dating for about a month now. You had decided for the moment to keep it under wraps, since you and Meta Knight's employer didn't get along well, to put it nicely. You didn't want to make Dedede question Meta Knight's loyalty, and Meta Knight didn't want Dedede to keep bothering you because of your relationship. So interactions in broad daylight were usually limited to "accidentally" running into each other in town, or when you were keeping an eye on Kirby, Tuff, and Tiff. He had a habit of appearing in trees nearby the group, and you just so happened to sit nearby those trees, and quiet conversation ensued from there.
Tiff had almost caught you a few times. When she nearly did, you two would act as though you had only just noticed the other nearby and pretend to strike up a completely new conversation. You had a feeling she was onto you both, though.
Chef Kawasaki came over to your table, which consisted of Sir Ebrum and Lady Like, Tiff, Tuff, Kirby, Fololo and Falala, and then you and Meta Knight at the end.
"Happy anniversary to you two! What can I get for you all?" He asked.
As others were beginning to place their orders, you glanced over at Meta Knight. A question came to your head.
"Hey, Meta," you whispered.
"Hmm?"
"How are you planning to eat with your mask on?"
"I can slide it up a bit, (Y/n)."
"There's like, a lot of people here. And I've only seen you actually eat a few times."
"It's alright. I'm not showing my full face. That I save for a special someone." He winked at you.
You giggled.
"Am I that special someone?"
"Perhaps," he answers smuggly.
"Hehe, alright. Just wanted to offer, we could always get ours to go and eat later," you said.
"We could get dessert to go."
"Ah, I like the way you think," you wink back at Meta Knight, who chuckles.
Meanwhile, Tiff is watching the two of you from across the table. When Kawasaki gets to her, she orders, and then turns her attention back to you. She sees Meta Knight wink at you, and you giggle. She leans over to Tuff and Kirby.
"Hey, does Meta Knight seem more, casual than usual?"
Tuff, oblivious, looks over at her.
"What do ya mean, Tiff?" Kirby looks towards her, an unsure look on his face.
"I just saw him wink at (Y/n). Have you ever seen him wink at anyone?"
"I dunno, I don't really pay attention to if Meta Knight winks or not."
