CHAPTER TEN:
the turning point

The inside of his room was a wreak, piles of clothes laid on the ground and he would let out a sigh whenever he couldn't find what he was looking for. Another shirt landed on the ground angrily "this is absolute bullshit!". He moved away from his closet running down the steps.

Jeremy sat along the couch, his mind wandering as he drew. Samuel frowned deeply as he approached the boy "are you an alien or something? I haven't seen you draw in years man".

Jeremy glared at Samuel as he stopped drawing "I draw still, I just felt inspired I guess". Samuel grabbed the notebook "this whole thing is very emo of you Jeremy". The boy huffed as he pulled the notebook out of Sams grasp.

"You're just jealous I can draw better then you, I found this really old journal in dads stuff. Apparently some guy named Johnathan Gilbert from the 1800s wrote it".

Samuel rolled his eyes "that guy was a buzz kill, all he wrote about was supernatural things, I've read it once when I was your age. I found the stories to be interesting, suppose you were bond to follow".

Jeremy smiled "he's kind of a freak show, I'm assuming he's was a lunatic or drunk. Especially if he wrote all those things in the journal".

Samuel blinked "well he's a Gilbert, we tend to be pretty messed up in the head, although he's not the worst of the bunch, wait till you hear about our aunt Beatrice, she died before you were born, car crash or something like that, I was her favorite until Elena was born, of course mom never talked about her, said she was more of a family friend but she was practically like an aunt to us".

"I've never heard of her before, what did she do?" Samuel sat down beside the boy. "She used to hunt monsters, always claimed she was chasing big foot in the woods, that mystic falls was magic or some shit like that, I was young back then so I believed the stories she'd tell me. I imagine she died when it all caught up to her, her tires were slashed and she had teeth marks on her body, maybe big foot got her after all in the end".

"Big foot? You really think big foot is a real thing?" Samuel stood up shrugging his shoulders "I think Beatrice was looking for something else in those woods, something that got her killed".

The sound of knocking on the door made Samuel huff slightly. "I forgot I was in the middle of something, uh stall Jeremy! I'll be back".

"Stall! What am I suppose to do?" Samuel ran towards the steps sighing "just talk! Do a fucking flip, I don't care! Keep her busy".

Jeremy approached the doorway opening it "hello, you must be Jeremy. I'm here for Samuel". Jeremy pushed the door open and moved out of the way "he's upstairs, he told me to stall you, but I just remembered I have this thing at the school".

Rebekah smiled as she walked up the stairs, she walked into Samuels room. "Bloody hell, this place is a mess, have you've gone mad?".

Samuel turned "damn, Jeremy was suppose to stall you for at least another minute, he likely ran off for that damn job fair thing at the school, it's lame".

He shoved his closet door shut after forcing piles of clothes into it. "Sorry about the mess, you were meant to be downstairs still, Jeremy of course didn't really do his job that well".

"He's run off to high school, never been myself personally". Samuel smiled "its a good thing you know, high school was hell for me".

"I know most humans aren't fond of high school or normal matters, but I myself find it interesting. It means a normal life for me".

Samuel blinked "well they are doing the job fair tonight, anyones welcome to browse about. Perhaps you'd like going there, get a sense of that high school life you're dying to have".

Rebekah laughed lightly "I'm not that desperate for it, but I am curious about it now that you're speaking of it, come on let's go".

Samuel walked alongside Rebekah into the high school, "the last time I was here, I was forced to wear an uncomfortable cap and gown. Worst five hours of my entire life".

His gaze landed on Jeremy who was walking past him with Tyler Lockwood. They both looked annoyed with each other as they were taken outside by Tyler's father, Samuel sighed deeply.

"That's not a good sign, I'll be right back. Why don't you browse around at the stands". He ran off outside Jeremy was pushed back by the mayor.

"You don't fight in there like pansies. You take it outside, fight your battles like men, and move on".
Tyler looked at his father with defeat as his father pushed Jeremy towards him.

"Best lesson my dad taught me. So let's settle it. Fight" Tyler looked worried "dad! No way!". Jeremy tried to walk away but groaned when he was shoved into Tyler. "I said fight!".

Samuels fist collided with the mayors nose and the man flew towards the ground groaning. "Why don't you pick on someone your own size asshole!".

Tyler and Jeremy looked surprised by Samuels actions as the boy glared at the mayor. "Who the hell do you think you are! I will have you arrested!". Samuel rolled his eyes as he watched the mayor stand up and shout at him.

"If anyone should be arrested, it's you for trying to force your own son to fight someone. I mean I thought I had a shit father but you really hit the bag man. I'm like actually speechless about this".

The mayor punched Samuel and he groaned as blood left his nose. He tasted it on the top of his lips when he licked them with such hatred.

"Sam, let's just go!" the look in Samuels eyes changed in a matter of seconds. His pupils grew darker as his lips sneered angrily.

His fist collided with the mayors face the impact of it making his knuckles ache. He felt his bones shifting from the harsh impact as he hit again.

His fingers wrapped around the mayors suit and he pulled him closer to his face. "If you ever try anything with my brother again, the next time I won't just break your nose. I'll ruin your entire fucking existence Lockwood!".

He threw the man onto the ground and kicked him in the face making him pass out. Samuel let out a heavy breath as he walked towards Jeremy.

"You alright? He didn't hurt you?" Jeremy shock his head "I'm fine, just surprised. I can't believe you just beat up the mayor!". Samuel looked at the man on the floor and shrugged his shoulders.

"He was being an asshole, he deserved it" Samuel patted Jeremy's shoulder "come on, let's get back inside before anyone sees you out here". They walked back inside and Samuel sighed deeply.
