Chapter Twenty-Seven

Ariella’s POV

The sound of the wind swirling around me created a comfortable feeling. The scene surrounding me took my breath away. I stood on my toes and lifted my arms. My shadow mimicked me as the moon shone down on the luminous sand. The waves calmly moved in a serene, rhythmic pattern. His arms were around me, the arms of the man I just married. Being with him made a feeling of pure ecstasy course throughout my entire body. This was a feeling that I would never get tired of. This was paradise.

As a child, I dreamed of weddings and honeymoons. My reality far surpassed any previous dreams I had. Experiencing such things with Niall Horan was something that I truly didn’t deserve, yet I got to do them. What a great joy it was to be here with him.

“Is it as good as you expected?” Niall asked as he interrupted my thoughts.

            “Better,” I answered.

I turned around and wrapped my arms securely around his torso. He smiled at me and kissed me softly. A chill ran up my spine as his fingers gently massaged my back.

            “I love you,” I said.

“I love you more, Ariella Horan!” Niall shouted.

He laughed and clumsily fell to the ground, bringing me with him. His laughter was so infectious that I found myself struggling to stop laughing as well.

“That makes me so happy!” Niall yelled.

“What does?” I asked him.

“Your new last name,” He answered.

I rested my head on his chest and we stared at the stars together. I sighed in joy and listened to Niall’s heartbeat. He started singing softly. He ran his fingers through my hair as he sung to me. Niall lifted his head up and kissed the top of my head, and then rested his head back on the sand again. Lying there with him made me forget all of my problems. Being in the presence of Niall overwhelmed me with delight.

If this was only the first night of our honeymoon, I was beyond excited to experience the rest. Niall and I forgot the world. There was no one on the beach apart from the two of us at the small island we were at. Honestly, I didn’t even know if there were other people here besides Niall and myself.

“Niall, are there other people here?” I asked him.

“Why? Are you getting tired of me already?” He joked.

“I’m just curious. It’s so quiet and peaceful. Just the two of us… I like it.”

“I could spend forever like this,” Niall stated.

“Me too,” I agreed.

“Hey, look, a shooting star!” Niall yelled. He pointed to the sky as a small star shot across the sky.

“Did you make a wish?” He asked.

“No,” I answered.

“Why not?”

“All of my wishes came true.”

Niall sat up, causing me to move with him. We both repositioned and sat in an Indian style. My right knee brushed against his left. His hand soon found mine and our fingers mindlessly intertwined. My head instinctively leaned against his shoulder. We sat together in complete silence, yet it felt like all of the words we needed to say were understood.

“Do you want to go inside?” Niall asked softly.

I nodded my head. He picked me up bridal style and carried me back to the house we were staying at on the island. He swung open the door and kicked it shut behind us. Once we arrived in the master bedroom, Niall placed me on the bed and then took his place beside me. He fidgeted with the buttons on my shirt. My eyes met his and I knew he was having the same thoughts as me.

Niall gently placed his lips on mine and climbed on top of me. My hands automatically got tangled in his hair. All of a sudden, I heard a loud crash. The both of us jumped. It sounded like someone was running around our house. I tensed up. Niall slowly got off of the bed and left the bedroom. I jumped off of the bed and followed him. As I walked into the kitchen, I noticed that pots and pans were sprawled across the floor.

“Man, I hope whoever did this didn’t take all the food…” Niall grumbled.

“Is that all you ever think about?” I asked him.

I rolled my eyes playfully and shoved his arm. When a furry creature scurried between my legs, I tackled Niall and screamed at the top of my lungs. My arms clung to his neck, making it hard for him to breathe.

“Ariella, it’s just a raccoon!” Niall shouted.

The two of us laughed loudly as the raccoon ran around the kitchen once more. Niall opened the back door and it swiftly made its exit.

“How did a raccoon get in here?” I asked.

“I don’t know…” Niall said, dumbfounded.

I chuckled quietly. I felt Niall’s arms wrap around my waist and pull me to him.

A chill went down my spine as his lips were pressed to my neck. He whispered to me in a low voice. “Now, where were we?”
