A few days earlier at the Port Mafia Headquarters

The scarlet moonlight served as the back-light of one of the most powerful man in Yokohoma while he sat at a black leather seat, playing with his scalpel.

His relaxed demeanor was the complete opposite of the cold intimidating aura he was emitting.

A fool would believe that Mori had everything in control but Dazai was not one.

The moment he came to report back to Mori, he knew that there was something more to his mission than simply retaliating against a person who killed a few unimportant port mafia members.

" Boss, the target from Takasekai has been eliminated." Dazai stated.

Mori didn't answer immediately, instead he closed his eyes for a few seconds while continuing on playing with his scalpel.

"Ditching the rest of your men on purpose and placing them on a trap without them realizing it. Bending my orders isn't like you Dazai-kun." Mori said.

Now that's a first. Dazai thought amusingly.

He had been working for the port mafia for two years now, but for the very first time Mori is scolding him about work.

" I didn't question him and I killed him immediately just as you ordered." Dazai answered in a polite tone.

" And yet you didn't dispose of him promptly and at the same time you ordered your men to search his corpse." Mori said calmly then he stabbed the wooden table with his scalpel.

He eyed Dazai with his cold terrifying stare and smiled at him menacingly. Nevertheless Dazai could not find it in himself to feel terror.

I guess a demon does not fear another demon. he thought as he let out a low chuckle.

"Don't worry Mori-san, I didn't ask him why he have incurred your personal wrath." Dazai said.

He searched Mori's face to see if he was right about his presumption but Mori was not giving anything away.

"Don't get me wrong Dazai-kun. I'm not worried, " he stood up from his seat and walked towards the glass windows to admire the night view of Yokohoma. "--I figured you'll catch on immediately." Mori finished.

He closed his eyes for a second as he looked at the view.

Thinking back, Mori turned his back on his loved ones to protect this city. He dirtied his hands and left the side of good.

Mori understood that someone had to make the tough choices.

He knew that darkness could never vanish so by becoming the ruler of it, he had taken it upon himself to make sure that the darkness could be used to protect. Now the cost of his sacrifice is hunting him.

It's been two years now since he became the Port Mafia boss and it's also been two years now since he felt this feeling--the feeling to act out of personal gain and not out of duty.

In this rare moment of vulnerability with his back turned on Dazai, he could not find the next course of action he must make.

"Tell me, Dazai-kun what should I do with the girl? " he asked in a low tone.

Dazai did not answer immediately. In his part, there were only two options and the answer lays at whether the man asking was the Port Mafia boss, or Mori himself and it was obvious to him that the man asking him was the latter.

"Protect her." Dazai stated.

Mori turned towards Dazai with a genuine smile on his face.

"Well, I'll leave the task to you then."
