Snowfall sits by Thorn's unconscious body for the rest of the night. The smell of blood was still hanging heavily in the air. Snowfall gets startled by a knock on the door. A nurse comes inside, "Snowfall sir, the king has requested your company."
And what the fuck does he want now?
Snowfall thought angrily standing up, giving one last glance at the cut up and bandaged version of his son.
He steps outside the nurses' place, instantly greeted by Egon at the door.
"Hello again, Snowfall," Egon says, shaking his hand with his unbroken arm. Snowfall can't even stutter a word back to the guy who did this to his son before Egon keeps talking. "So, now you will lead me to the human city!""No, no. Sir, we can't. The humans will shoot us...most likely," Snowfall says.
Egon just waves his paw at him "nonsense! We shall leave at once!"
Snowfall sighs and they walk out of the tunnels in the dim morning light. The wet grass and mud squishing gently under their paws. The leaves have started changing color, so it's almost fall, then winter. Another long hard winter. They soon see the outline of the city against the dim morning light. The sound of cars, streetcars and humans yelling around can be heard shortly before they step into the city.
It was a big city, with tall gray buildings. A few trees here and there are planted, though, there is a little scent of cars too.
The humans around look uneasy at them as they step into the first busy street.
People eating donuts outside a café, people on their porches watering their plants. Most of them are glaring at the two of them.
Okay, so they humans aren't like "omg, we have to kill them nowww!" Buttttttt, they aren't exactly so welcoming. Well, that's not the entire truth either. Six human cities welcome ghost cats because they are the cities closest to the caves. This is one of them, some humans even keep ghost cats as pets.Egon starts walking, walking oddly with his stiff leg. Snowfall thinks about asking why his wing and arm are broken, but he decides to not.
Egon walks up to the first café and the humans stare at them. "So!" Egon yells to Snowfall, startling the humans. "I want a donut," he says.
Snowfall just nods. He has been inside human houses a few times, no big deal. Nothing scary about it at all.
The humans stare at them.
Of course, the humans do not understand him, a News report had once described the ghost cat language as "the sound of a bunch of dying crows," which is fair enough.
It can be learned though, and ghost cats can also learn the English language. Egon pushes open the door to the café and walks inside, Snowfall follows. It smells of newly baked bread, cakes and cupcakes, coffee and tea. Some humans are sitting by the tables with their computers, doing their morning work, he guessed.Snowfall watches Egon eyeing the goods. "I will take a coffee and a sandwich," Egon says to the human in the human language. The human stares back at him slowly "do you have anything to pay with?" Her look almost adding "do not steal."
"Yes, of course," Egon says, smiling and putting down four human dollars. The human nods and gives him the goods. They sit down at a table together.
