It had been 1 moth now since ther brother had taken over as leader. And betrayed them by staying with a human as a pet. Well, he could be a pet and leader but aspen did not like it.
He and ther last living sister, Maple. Was walking trough the forest a cold atum evening. The mud was frozen under ther paws and made cracking sounds as they went. It was dark now, maybe a few hours before midnight.
Maple sighs next to him. "Ya know. It's good Egon is King now. So he haves something to do."
Aspen growls. "Egon is not the name father gave him. It's a shame over father that he changed it."
Maple sighs loudly and lets out a long ughhhh. Scaring away a nearby bird. "Come on Aspen! You have been whining about that for moths now. Let it be. Come on, we need to find some food."
Sigh. He was hungry. They keep walking, the moon sighing weakly trough the thin night clouds. Maple was so sweet. It was not normal for siblings to stick togheter for this long into adoult hood. They where over 20 after all. But. Becuse of what happend. They decided that sticking togher troughout the fall and winter would be best. Aspen can't whait for spring to come. Then he could go of and find a mate. Maybe have some eggs of his own. That would be nice. Just a quirt life.
Yeah! Let Oak go and be king, and i can relax and be safe.
Maple sighs. "Do you worry about him? Egon?"
Not his name.
Aspen nods a bit. "Were just lucky those humans gave him the fancy claws."
Maple nods. "Yeah. That was wierd."
They keep walking, the cold is sticking trough his fur and his tail and win tips feels like ice at this point. He have heard story about it being this cold on the island. But only experisnced it there once in his 5 years there.
Maple hums and old melody. Starting to sing. Something about how good crows taste. Aspen smiles, lisening to her soothing voice. The song had broken the spooky silence over the dark frozen forest. He could se shiny eyes here and there from other animals. But they where gone before he could even atemt to catch them.
Brother probalty haves it so good right now. Laying on a human couch eating dry pelets. Fair enugh be broke a few bones but he should leave once his arm is well.
Aspen had to admit to himself that he probalty wouldent tho.
Stupid pet.
He growls to himself then walks straight into Maple.
"Agh?! Why did you stop!" He growls.
Maple just claps her hands, un botherd by his harsh tone. "Look! A human farm! I bet it's plenty of food in there"
Aspen looks. There is a big open space, the fealds coverd in shiny frozen grass that is reflexting the moonshine. In the milde there is a red barn with a small green house next to it. Aspen looks at it, unsure.
"Comeee onnnnn" Maple sais and smiles. "Lets go! In and out. Quickly. Well grab a sheep and run."
"B-but what about the farmer? He'll shot us!" Aspen sais.
I am not losing another sister.
Maple sighs louldy. "I am the oldest now, therefor i decide. There for i decide that we go and steal a sheep. Now before we starve to death."
Aspens stomach growls in agreement. "Fine. In and out. And just for your information i am male so therefor i decide."
Maple roles her eyes at him. "Oh little brother. You can go decide over Egon. You are his big brother and my little brother. Sooo lets goooooo" and with that she runs into the open fealds.
Aspen follows in a hury. The frozen grass cracking under his paws. His breath coming out in clouds agenst the cold autum night. They run all the way up to the barn. It smells nice. It smells of warm hey and animals. Sheeps, chikens maybe even a cow or two. The window at the top gives of a warm light from the inside.
Maple spread her wings and flyes upto the window. Sticking her head inside, before crawling in the window. A moment pause and her fluffy head sticks outside. Telling him to follow. Aspen spread his wings and flyes up to the window. Feeling the frozen night air agenst his cold wings. He lands on the window frame and falls inside. Landing on well smelling warm hay. He enyos it for a moment before Maple hisses "Elegant" in his ear and he stands up. Shaking sticky pices of hay out of his fur. They creap on four legs over to the edge of the half cealing. Looking down. There was a small herd of sleepy sheep. 3 sleeping cows and a few chikens runing arund. Maple points at a sheep standing a few meaters away from the others, drinking some water
Aspen nods and they slowly climes down. He stops for a moment. Thinking he heard a faint bark in the distance... he shakes his head
Problaty nothing.
He thinks as they slowly make ther way over to the sheeps. Threading lighty to not scare them. Then there it is again. A bark. Them more barks. Maples head shots up. She hears it too. It comes closer. And closer. Followed by a human yelling. Maple grabs his paw. "Lets go! Find a corner and camuflage. She hisses and starts runing towards the hay. Aspen follows quickly but stumbles over a chiken and falls. Falls at the exact momemt the barn door slams open and a angry farmer steps inside. Holding a gun.
The farmer looks tierd. And realy realy angry. Aspen stands up. Puting up his hands. "we haven't stolen anything!" He barks quickly in the human lanuage. The farmer just stare at him and slowly takes up his gun. "You fucking dog kind have been stealing from me for years." The farmer snarels and pulls the triger. He closes his eyes. Everyting seems to be going in slow mosion. Then he feels himself get pushed aside. And falls on the ground. He opens his eyes to se maple laying on the ground. Her fur drenched in blood. The dog snarling and the farmer fumbling with the gun to put in another bullet. The animals in the barn are making loud sounds in a panic now. Aspen stands up and spread his wings. Flying out the window.
