Since this time they were flying out of the country to England. The flight took much longer than the previous and that meant there was plenty of time for Shawn to really think.
Having turned his chair to face the window and resting his arm on the ledge. Shawn rested his face in his hand and let his mind wander as he watched the clouds and sky pass.
It was strange but Shawn didn't think about the "encounter" he had with Layla all that much. Part of the reason why because it was still fresh and it stung a lot. Still unable to believe that he let that happen to himself for a second time. However, that experience really opened his eyes and made him see just what kind of person Layla was. He married someone he only thought he knew. But in time he saw the truth and realized that cutting her out of his life for good might not have been such a terrible thing after all.
That was all that came to mind whenever he thought about the encounter again. Other than that it slipped right out of his mind.
The real thing that he was focused on was what happened with the folder and the contents that were inside of it. After finding out what was inside and what the CIA's initial plan was, Shawn didn't want to show Buchanan the folder and wanted to pretend that it never existed. He knew that he didn't have it in him to go forward with the plan. After all, it was some dastardly plan to tap into agents' minds and turn them into some kind of living monsters. Shawn definitely didn't want to be that messenger.
Alongside all of that, he couldn't stop thinking about the fact that now Buchanan had the contents and that it was all thanks to Mark. He was there right beside Shawn and he figured that Mark would be on his side. He was for sure that was the case and that Mark also wanted nothing to do with those plans. However, Mark was the one who sent them over to the New York base and Shawn just couldn't understand why.
Come to think of it Mark was all over Shawn's mind and he couldn't shake it even if he wanted to. He was genuinely worried about him. Mark had gone back to the New York base and now Buchanan knew of the plans from Langley. He didn't want Buchanan or anyone to try and tap into Mark's mind and turn him into something inhuman. He knew how highly Buchanan thought of Mark and how he viewed him as a good agent with a lot of skill and natural talent. That alone made him seem like the perfect candidate to play the guinea pig in this sick experiment.
Shawn really hated how things ended with Mark. Once again they had gotten into a fight and ended up both pushing each other away. Right after getting close. That was the cycle between the two. Every time Shawn and Mark started to get close, something would blow up in their faces and then they started pushing all over again. Already Shawn was tired of it and just wanted to see Mark and talk to him. Really talk to him. Try and knock some sense into him and have him be on Shawn's side.
Mark had said that he thought Shawn was "different" and he tried to wrap his head around what that meant. Even though he took it back a split second later. There was a part inside Shawn that told him that Mark didn't mean the second part of that statement and still believed that Shawn was "different". Not only that but when Shawn really looked at Mark he seemed hurt knowing that Shawn had left him to be with Layla. All of it really got Shawn thinking even more. Thinking about Mark.
Snapping out of it Shawn looked away from the window and turned to face Kurt. Hearing his voice he listened as he went on about the information he had gotten about this other independent base in England. They were called the Kingsman and they were like the Statesman's "English cousins" as they put it.
Shawn lightly smiled as he set his thoughts aside and focused solely on his best friend. He felt bad for not being with Kurt more often during this mission. But he couldn't for the life of him get Mark out of his mind. Even though he was trying so hard to do so right then.
