"god, you ate all of that already?" michelle asked as she put her newspaper down.

we were standing on a sidewalk across from the building mark worked in. i had been busy looking through binoculars to see mark's office.

on the way i had picked up an ice cream. that was almost five minutes ago.

"yeah i know it's weird, i don't even like ice cream," i said. "oh! there he is!"

i saw him walking with his daughter in his arms, it made my heart warm up.

she giggled in his arms as he carried her. his smile contrasted with hers perfectly, although she didn't look like mark, she looked like her mother.

michelle sighed as she looked back down at her newspaper, "this is so sick."

"look how sweet he is with his kid," i said. "god, if only stephanie would stop throwing up."

michelle chuckled, "come on, let's get some pizza or something."

"what? but i just finished my ice cream." i said.

"i know that by the time we get there, you'll be hungry again. let's go." she said as she took my hand.

the next day i had gone over to my parent's house. i had a close relationship with my parents so i always visited them when i had the time.

we had been talking since i was over, until the topic of marriage came up.

"marina don't you go out? how are you gonna expect to find a husband if you never go out?" my mom questioned.

i furrowed my eyebrows, "i go out."

she shook her head, "i could call you, any night of the week and you're in."

i sighed, "mom it's tax season okay?" i ate my food frustratedly, she always does this to me.

"i know it's tax season. i was studying to pass a cpa exam when there were hardly any women accountants and i still managed to dress nicely and catch your father." she said.

ah yes, now you know why i've become an accountant. my mom and dad were both accountants, it pretty much ran in our blood.

"mom? what would you have done if dad was married when you met him?" i asked.

she smiled, "i wouldn't have fallen in love with him."

"but you can't control who you fall in love with." i shook my head.

"why not?" she questioned.

"you just can't." i sighed as i continued eating my food.

"okay, take your father for example. what's his favorite food?"

"cheesecake." i answered immediately.

"what did his doctor tell him?"

"'cut back on cholesterol.'" i furrowed my eyebrows at her.

"so, now he doesn't eat cheesecake. it's the same exact thing."

i scoffed, "mom that doesn't make any sense!"

i picked up my food, eating it to try and calm my nerves, which were overly acting up today.

my mom narrowed her eyes at me as she watched me eat, "you never used to like my food before."

"i still don't." i exhaled.

"something's wrong," she said. "something's wrong."

"nothing is wrong mom-"

"louie something's wrong." she turned to my dad.

"daddy i didn't eat anything for breakfast, nothing is wrong."

my dad looked up from the work he was doing, acknowledging our conversation at last.

"you're my only daughter marina, how are you going to tell me nothing is wrong?"

i chewed on my bottom lip. my mom was right. even if i hadn't eaten for two days, i still wouldn't be hungry enough to eat my mom's food. i loved her but she was never really the best cook.

i really thought it was nothing though. the amount of food i had been eating was a lot than what i normally do eat, i always thought it was stress.

but every morning i would have to vomit. i didn't know what was wrong with me.

then again, i haven't gotten my period either.
