Images streaked behind Everit's eyes. A frail looking girl with whitish-blonde hair. Shouting. Crying. A flash of road. Eyes the reddish-brown colour of rust or dried blood, with black marks like cobwebs stained underneath. A flicker of a name. Paisley.

She snapped her eyes open. Usually her visions were less fragmented then that. But she hadn't been focusing. Walking to her desk, she looked at the figure slumped in her bed. No, she was definitely preoccupied. Gale stirred in her sleep. Everit sighed. It was only a matter of time. A matter of time before her coven realized what had happened to Gale. A matter of time before they threw both her and Gale out. Gale's skin was colourless, and when Everit went to put a hand on her forehead, her skin was cold. But of course it was. What blood did she have to warm her skin up? Everit ran her hands through her tangled hair, her breathing sharp and irregular. How could she look after Gale when she couldn't even look after herself? She took a deep, calming breath. Focus, she told herself. Gale needed blood. Sitting here panicking wasn't going to fix anything. She hadn't had any since she'd been turned, and without it, she would only get weaker. Where could Everit get blood from? She knew that most vampire clans got their blood from donors, blood banks or butchers, but how would she arrange that?And besides, she didn't have any typical money. She sighed again. She needed help from someone who actually knew what they were doing. She needed to get a vampire's help. Quietly opening her door, she slipped out of her bedroom. A long hallway spanned in front of her. Everit knew that her dad, the head witch of their coven, had a list of contacts of supernaturals in his study. If she could just get hold of a vampire's contacts... Tiptoeing down the hall, she stopped at an ornate looking door. Putting her ear to it, she checked if she could hear anyone inside. Once she knew the coast was clear, she turned the doorknob, wincing when the door creaked. The room was shrouded in shadow, a large desk taking up most of the space. She hurried over to it, holding her breath as she checked the drawers. The last drawer she tried had a key in the lock. She unlocked it, and the drawer rolled opened smoothly. Inside was a stack of files, and sure enough, in one of them was a list of contacts. Quickly she drew out her phone and took pictures of all the pages. She could always check over it later. Once she was done, she closed the drawer, smiling. That was easy. Locking it, she made sure that everything was how it was when she had entered the room. She turned towards the door, only to find a figure standing in the doorway.

"Everit." Said the familiar voice. Everit closed her eyes. Of course. Nothing was that easy.

"Yes Dad?" Everit responded, trying to sound innocent, but still her voice cracked.

"Gale's coven called. Apparently, she's been missing for a while now. So, of course, I went to ask you if you knew where she was. And she was in your bed." Everit gulped. How would she cover this one up? And what if he already knew...

"Uhh, yeah. She was feeling sick, so I've been looking after her. I didn't know that anyone was looking for her, or obviously I would've...." Everit quailed under the look her father gave her. He shook his head.
"Evvey, stop rambling. I know what a vampire looks like." Everit hung her head. Even now, she didn't want to disappoint her father. "Everit," her father continued sadly. "you know what this means. You helped Gale instead of telling the coven. You valued her safety over the oath you made to us. You know, now, what I have to do." Everit nodded, her throat closing up with the oncoming tears. She forced them back.

"yeah. I know." She said quietly. Everit's dad hugged her gruffly, arms wrapped around her tightly.

"you are hereby expelled from the coven." He whispered into her hair. Everit nodded, her stomach dropping. The decision had been made. She could never come back.

* * *

Everit stared at the silver mark on her collarbone. It had already faded. She sniffed, glancing around her room. Gale was there, looking around blearily, a backpack on her lap. Everit had packed her own backpack, which now sat on the neatly made bed beside her. She sighed.

"Oh, Gale, what are we going to do? We have nowhere to go." Gale shrugged dazedly.

"I'll get a vampire clan. You'll get a new coven. Cheer up Evvey, it'll be fine" Everit shook her head.

"You're not getting it Gale. I can't get another coven. I can no longer be trusted to be loyal. No one's gonna give me a second chance. And it will take months to find you a clan. In the meanwhile, where are we supposed to live? Where are you going to get food from? "Gale looked as though she had barely heard her.

"well, you said you got contacts?" she mumbled. Everit nodded. She had forgotten.

"yeah. I haven't looked at them yet, but there will probably be a couple Supernaturals that could help us. I don't think dad realizes what I was doing in his office..." Everit trailed off, looking at Gale. She was asleep again. Everit stared at her for a minute. Maybe she was stupid to help her. By helping Gale, Everit had gotten herself into a position she didn't know if she could get out of. But no. She would have never abandoned her friend. Everit walked over to the chair beside the bed. They wouldn't leave just yet. Once Gale woke up, they would probably be kicked out. But until then, she would keep watch. Settling herself into the chair, Everit turned herself so she was facing Gale. She would make sure that nothing happened to them.
