Melody stands in the doorway of Hank's office and gently knocks on the open door letting him know she's here with a folder in her hand "Are you, Hank ?" Her voice was soft as silk, "who wants to know?" His husky voice echoed in his office, he didn't bother to look up from his paperwork. "I'm Melody Knight, I was transferred from the Louisiana intelligence unit to your unit and they said to talk to you." She puts the folder on his desk, "Well, you've come to the right place, I'm Sergeant Hank Voight." He stands from his chair and extends his hand for Melody to her and as she shakes his hand it's obvious she's a shy girl, "I've heard a lot about you, I think You'll fit in here." He said with a grin as he sat back down and read her file several times and is impressed with her work, no criminal records, no complaints but there is a warning

: Warning: DO NOT leave her alone with a child molester, abuser and/or rapist they will NOT make it out alive.:

Hank offers her a seat, "How long have you been with the Louisiana unit?" He asked. "Since I was 18," she said as she sat down, "and there's a reason why that warning is at the bottom of my file," she said as she rubbed the back of her neck nervously. "Oh?" Hank said was curious about what her explanation was as he leaned back in his office chair and folded his hands on his chest, as she looked him dead in the eye "I beat them within an inch of their lives, I do not like people like that. Who in their right mind would do that to somebody, let alone a child? They're going to get the death penalty might as well speed it up." She puts her right leg on her left knee and it's obvious Hank and Melody are going to get along perfectly, "Seems to me that we have something in common already, but in this unit we have rules." He said with a chuckle as she smirked, "What are the rules boss?" Hank sat up "firstly when you want to beat the crap out of someone do it in the cage because that's your safe place because there are cameras up all around here. Secondly, keep your skirt on, because there's no fraternizing with co-workers." he said sternly because he didn't want her to do what Erin, Kim, and Hailey did when it came to boys. "I don't date, not after Russ." she gets a cold and almost evil look in her milk Hershey brown eyes, Hank cracks his knuckles as he sits up in his chair. "This won't affect the way you work with these kinds of people, will it? We have a great support system here, we're family so if you need to talk, I'm here to listen." He said as Melody sighed "Russ what's a meth head in Arizona I used to date when I was 17, I tried to help him stay off the Meth but," she sighs as she put her right boot on the floor, leans forward, and puts her forearms on her knees. "I failed because I found out he failed two drug test while we were together, so I left him." she runs her fingers through her hair, "he promised he'd stop and I believed him, but no it won't affect the way I work." it's obvious she's a good kid who tried to help somebody who couldn't help themselves so she didn't fail Russ, Russ failed himself and her. "You can't always help the broken, I know I tried. You just have to watch them destroy themselves and wish them luck. And maybe they'll get some sense and pick themselves up from the grave they dug for themselves." Hank said to Melody, he knew she meant well and that she had a good heart, a heart that can be led down a road of pain that it's already been down. Melody wipes makeup off her face and shoulder and there are four scratches across her face. One starting at her forehead stopping just next to her left eyebrow, a second one starting at the top of her right eye going across her eye stopping at her nose, a third starting at her cheek and going across her lips and a fourth just under the third one going around her chin and all four completely stop at her shoulder. "Should have walked away when he did this." Hank clenched his jaw as he looked at the scars ''If you don't mind me asking, how did that happen?" Melody lets out a low chuckle "He had a bad trip, held me down, and carved them into my face, he's about your size so we took me down easy." She saw a glimmer of anger in Hank's eyes ''I hope you left him with a few scars himself? men that do that women or children don't deserve painless death, death would be a blessing to them. That's why I do this job, to get scumbags like that off the streets cause when you mess with my city you mess with me." He said as he looked directly at Melody, "I took out his left knee cap with a double-barrel 12 gauge shotgun." She said point-blank, "nicely done," Hank said as he Snickers while he pictured her shooting Russ in the kneecap. "So are you ready to meet the team?" she asked "Inferno si," she said and it's obvious that what she just said was either Spanish or Italian but after 27 years of the force, Hank knows what language she just spoke. "You speak Italian as well? That wasn't in your files," he said as he chuckles 'She's full of surprises', he thought to himself. "I was studying it on my way here, did you know Chicago has the highest Mafia population? Higher than New York." It's obvious she did her homework which is a good thing, "Hmm, didn't know that." Hank just brushed it off because not everyone needs to know he knew some of the people she was referring to. She cracks her neck as a device in her pocket goes off, she looks at it and goes white "That's too low, way too low." She starts digging in her bag looking for something, "Something wrong?" Hank noticed as she was white and she started panicking "My blood sugar is 45" she pulls out a small red case, opens it and it has a small bottle and a syringe.''You have diabetes?" Hank asked a little worried, "Type one and this is the only time it's ever gone this low," she takes the cap off the needle with her teeth, puts the needle into the bottle that has something in it, and the second the liquid hit what's in it, it dissolves as she takes the needle out of the bottle, shakes the bottle ten times, puts the needle back in the top of the bottle, pulls the plunger of the needle and draws in the liquid, she takes the needle out, puts the small bottle on his desk, puts the needle in the main vein in her arm, draws back the plunger as Blood goes into the needle "Got it" she pushes the plunger injecting the glucose sugar then takes out the needle, puts the cap back on the needle, then puts it and the small bottle back in the red case, closes it making sure it Snaps shut and puts it back in her bag "But I can promise you this it won't affect my work, I have it under control." Hank relaxes when he hears her say it's under control, "Well, if it ever gets that low again tell me or the others and we'll help you if you need anything. Also, keep that on you at all times, I don't wanna anything to happen to you when you're out on the field" he said motioning to the red case as Melody puts a similar-looking red case on Hank's desk, "Keep that in your desk just in case." It's obvious she's smart by giving one of her glucose needles to him. "Will do, just be safe" Hank opens the door to his office and his unit is right at work trying to catch a drug dealer that came to Chicago from Arizona, as Melody stands next to him "So what case are we working on?" He looks like her "Trying to catch a drug dealer that came to Chicago for Arizona." She nods her head as she suddenly gets a bad feeling as she grabs Hank's jacket and pulls him towards her as a bullet hits the wall right where he was standing and right where his head would have been as Melody pulls out her gun and uses her eyes to see where the bullet came from as she goes to the window, opens it, sits sideways on the ledge, aims and fires as she nails the shooter in the leg as he drops to the floor as Jay and Erin go outside and grab him, Melody looks at Hank "You ok Sarge?" She holds her gun and walks over to him, not knowing that the bullet ricocheted and hit her in the shoulder, either that or she doesn't care. "Melody, you've been hit, call an ambulance" he yells to one of his team members as he applies pressure to the wound. "Thanks, kid, and nice shooting," he said with a smile 'This newbie just saved my life, and here I was thinking she couldn't handle the job.' Voight thought to himself, Melody rips off her shirt sleeve and makes a tourniquet with it, tying it about the gunshot wound "I'm just hoping I can survive the taser initiation cause I never did that," she said with a chuckle "but hey if I can get shot and not scream I can survive a taser." She said as she rolls her eyes as she goes downstairs as the ambulance pulls up Hank walking next to her as he lets out a chuckle "Don't worry about that, I'll let the instructor let you pass because anyone who takes a bullet for me on their first day deserves a pass." Hank said as he helped Melody into the ambo, "Do you want someone to go with you?" He asked her as she thought for a moment. "You mind coming with me? There are a few little things I want you to know just between you and me." He got in without hesitation because he cares about his team, "you ok?" He asked sitting down beside the stretcher while the EMT patched her up till they got to the hospital. Melody whispered in Hank's ear "there's something you need to know and not in front of the others, it's about how I know there are so many mafias in Chicago the real reason why I know." She lays back down, Hank asks the emt to go up from with the driver so he can talk to Melody alone, the emt nods his head and goes up from so Hank and Melody are alone. "How do you know?" He whispered back when he knew they were alone as she looked at him, "do you remember arresting a mobster named James Knight?" Hank looks at her a little confused that she knows about that, "The name rings a bell, why you ask?" Hank eyed her as he studied her facial expressions and she has a smirk across her devil red lips as it clicks, James Knight is her father. "He's your father, isn't he?" Hank sighed sitting back on the seat, "That's why you got transferred here? You want revenge?" He kept his hand close to his gun because he knew Melody was carrying. "Not by a long shot because I'm glad you arrested him, he was nothing but an abusive sack of poorly packaged horse shit." Hank relaxes at how Melody got because now he knows she's not a threat to him or his unit, "why not just come out and say it? He's dead now he can't hurt you anymore." He puts his hand on hers "I didn't know he was dead till now, he was arrested here in Chicago while I was in Louisiana, I will be living with my aunt and uncle cause he murdered my mother when I was 8." she looks down "were you also worried I would send you picking?" He asked her as she looked at him, "yes, I kinda was worried you would turn your back on me, I mean who wants the daughter of a Mobster working for their unit?" She asked "I'm sorry you had to find out this way, he's been dead for a couple of years and his old gang is long gone too," Melody Takes off her shirt and going up and down her arms are burn scars from cigars while Hank watches her removing her shirt revealing the burn scars "He do those?" He asked as he gently rubbed them. "Yep, I was 4 the only reason why he did it because I made a 99 on a test, and words cannot express my mother's rage when she got home, and that was the day I left to live with my aunt and uncle." She said as he tried to keep his cool "and thank you for not turning your back on me" she said as she smiled "you're welcome and I want you that I don't judge someone from their past or who they're related to because only your present will determine whether you belong or not." Hank said smiling back "One question," she said "Yes?" He asked already knowing what her question was before she asked "are you okay with people in your unit having tattoos? There's a reason why I'm asking." Melody turns her back to Hank, lifts her undershirt, and taking up half or back is a tattoo of a Phoenix. And that was not the question he thought she was going to ask "I don't mind, Antonio and Adam have tattoos."That tattoo has a story behind it," she pulls down her shirt then lays back "my middle name is Phoenix." Melody has a very unique yet beautiful middle name, "Phoenix rises from the ashes of death into a new life, it suits you after all you've been through." As Melody starts singing a song that her mom sang to her.
