The moment we stepped off the train, we were divided into boys and girls.
They led us to the Great Hall and sat us down at our tables. I sat at the back of the Slytherin table with younger kids around me. It was...unusual to say the least.
About halfway through Snape's speech(he was headmaster by the way)someone tapped me on my shoulder.
"Lyra?" she whispered.
My eyes widened as I whipped my head behind me to see Nat. "Nat!" I whispered, hugging her the best I could without getting caught.
Nat sighed before sucking in a breath. "Salazar, Lyra. What happened to you?" she asked quietly.
I shook my head. "I-"
Alecto Carrow suddenly stood in front of us, grinning evilly. "Listen up!" she yelled.
The Hall was deathly silent. I could see Professor Mcgonagall, Professor Flitwick, Professor Slughorn, and Professor Sprout looking at us in worry.
Alecto opened her arms. "Do you know what happens if you talk without permission?" she screeched.
The students shook their heads. "No, ma'am," they answered in sync.
Alecto smirked. "This happens. Watch and learn," she cooed.
She pointed her wand at Nat and before she uttered anything, I knew what she was going to say.
"Crucio!" she screeched. I jumped in front of Nat and crumbled down from pain. It was like knives thrusting themselves into my body. It hurt like hell.
I distinctly heard Nat scream in horror, Alecto cackle, and Professor Mcgonagall get up from her seat.
"Carrow!" Mcgonagall yelled. She marched up to Alecto in fury. "We do not use the Cruciatus curse on students in Hogwarts!" she shrieked.
I got up shakily from my knees, collapsing back down on the bench next to Nat who hugged me tightly.
"I'm so sorry," she whispered over and over.
I just waved her off. "It's okay," I whispered.
After Alecto's little...performance, we were dismissed back to our common rooms. And yes. Without any food.
I sat down heavily in front of the fireplace. It was about 10 minutes until curfew and I didn't really want to go up to my dorm.
"Lyra," a voice drawled.
I looked up to see dark chocolate eyes. My eyes slightly dropped and my body slouched even more. "Blaise," I whispered.
Even to me, it sounded pathetic. But I guess that was what happens if you become a toy for the Cruciatus Curse.
Blaise sat down next to me, leaning back on the couch. "That was brave, Vailla," he murmured.
I scoffed. "What?" I muttered harshly. "Defending Nat, jumping in front of a curse, or not screaming?"
He glanced my way. "All three," He muttered.
I sighed. "Yeah, well, I didn't think it was brave. It was a pathetic excuse for a friend," I whispered harshly.
Blaise snorted. "Pathetic? You took the Cruciatus Cure for her! You shouldn't be doing that! Do you know how dangerous it is-"
"Oh, fuck it," I muttered.
I swung my leg over to the other side of Blaise and climbed on top of him. I leaned on his chest as his arms immediately circled around me.
"I missed you," I whispered again. I looked up at Blaise and saw that his eyes were clouded...with tears. I laughed softly, brushing his eyes with my hand. "Why are you crying?" I asked quietly.
Blaise let out a strangle sob-laugh. "Why do you think I'm crying?" he asked back.
I just smiled and kissed him softly on the corner of his mouth. "Because you have tears in your eyes," I answered matter-of-factly.
Blaise just shook his head. "Because I'm scared for you, love," he whispered, pulling me closer.
I snuggled closer. "Don't be. I'm fine," I lied. It was a really bad lie. But Blaise didn't comment. And soon, we fell asleep.
We just forgot one thing.
This school was overrun by death eaters.
A/N: Annnndddd, I'm back! Lyra is back at school(finally!). Her and Blaise are comfy again! SQueeeeeee!
