Autumn's POV
When I came to, the first thing I was aware of was an aching pain ricocheting through my body. The taste of blood lingered in my mouth, and my leg hurt so much it was almost numb.
Hushed murmurs slowly trickled through my consciousness, crescendoing until, finally, I could make out snatches of conversations.
Reluctantly, I peeled my eyes open (or rather, tried to), finding my left eye swollen shut. Bright light flooded my vision, blurry at first and slowly sharpening until I could make out fuzzy shapes.
"W-where am I?" I croaked out, my parched throat screaming at me to shut up. Naturally, I ignored it.
A young nurse walked over, and I couldn't help but notice the dark rings under her eyes. "So you're finally awake," she observed, kind eyes sparkling. "How are you feeling, darling?"
Sore, aching, and in pain.
I just shrugged, instantly regretting it. A sharp pain shot through my spine and back.
"Hurts," I choked out. A man walked over, clutching a clipboard.
"Go get some rest, Freya. I'll take care of the girl for the time being." He turned to address me. "Hi, sweetie. I'm Dr. Richards. I just need to ask you a few questions, and then I'll hand the police over, if that's okay."
Wow. So the police are involved? This must be more serious than I thought.
"First of all, do you know how long you've been asleep for?" He asked me. It suddenly occurred to me that I didn't. Strange. I shook my head.
He shifted position slightly, and I saw the sun rising. "Would you like to take a guess?"
But... That can't be right! I shook my head, frowning. Something flickered in his eyes. Pity? Sadness? Worry? "You've been asleep for 3 whole days," he told me gently.
"Thanks for your time, Miss Finch. Your parents will arrive any minute now."
I nodded. Closing my eyes, I leant back in the comfortable hospital bed. My head was spinning with the events of the last 4 days, and although I didn't want to, my body demanded sleep. Although I'd had plenty of that in the last few days...
My last thought as I drifted off to sleep was, ironically, I'm not tired. I'm not tired. I'm not-
