All of the Apothican families have the bloodline of either the deity Nyarlathotep or Y'golonac coursing in their veins, giving them the ability to shapeshift into anything, which of course includes humans and animals (either from the Overworld or the Abyssal plane), although the descendants of Y'golonac are restricted to only shapeshifting into humans, or humanoid beings.
The Zelroth Family
Is the current ruling family of the Overseers of the Collapse. They are said to have a more concentrated bloodline of Azathoth, also known as the Nuclear Chaos, than the other families. The Zelroth family can shapeshift at will, and activate their peculiar bloodline of Azathoth to unleash devastating power at the expense of their rationality, although there are some rare instances where the user is able to maintain rationality.
