My hands graced the fabric of my midi dress. The vibrant satin material compliments my complexion."Ms. Y/N, your father is asking for you in the banquet hall." The bubbly voice of the secretary filled the room.
"I'll be there in a moment. Thank you, Secretary Son."
I glanced at my reflection. Everything must be in place, not even a single strand of hair can stick out.
"Élégance. Beauté. Splendeur" My quiet chant was followed by a loud sigh. I was born to be the personification of all three. My father is one of the country's most respected nobility. With that being said, I should be nowhere near failure, perfection should be all I know.
As I walked towards the banquet hall, I felt an eerie atmosphere around me. He is watching me again. He is everywhere I go. It makes me feel uneasy. However, I am used to the discomfort. He's been there for as long as i can remember and all he can do is stare from afar.
The hall is occupied by different faces, some are familiar and some are new. My dad stood up to welcome me, his hands spread out for a hug.
As his arms wrapped around me, he whispered before letting go. "You're late."
I courteously smiled at the other elders. The boy around my age stepped closer to me.
"Good Evening, Lady. You're as beautiful as the night. Kai is the name." He took my hand and kissed it. I tried to hide the scowl , but my father and his parents looked pleased with his action.
"You look dashing as well, Kai." I tried my best to remain poised.
And the dinner went on. They talked about business and all those things that I don't really care about.
I lift my head from my plate only to see Kai staring at me with a smile on his face. I gave him a small smile in reply. Seriously, what is this boy's problem?
Minutes passed and the dreadful topic came.
"Won't this be a great time to start the wedding preparations?" Kai's mom asked.
I saw this coming. I am a product of an arranged marriage, except my parents learned to love each other. They had me, the fruit of their successful arrangement, and a stagnant empire. Because of this, my father believes that arranged marriage can actually spark love.
Sad to say but we don't have the same belief.
"Won't it be too early." Asked my step mom. She threw me a knowing look.
Life has never been better since my father married her. She's a breath of fresh air in this lonely house and she brought back my smile that had gone when my mom passed. She treated me really well, more so, she loved me as her own. However, as much as she opposed this wedding, my father's decision can never be altered.
"I think it's the perfect timing. The kids are about to graduate and this will give them more time to get to know each other."
"Very well," My father spoke. Me and my step mom looked at him, hoping that he'd actually make a decision that would favor me. "I say we start the preparations as soon as possible."
As expected. A forced smile graced my lips as a response. To my surprise, Kai reached out to hold my hand.
"It will be an honor to be your spouse."
Before I could utter a reply, I heard my step mother's scream. My father and Kai's parents are all head down and unconscious.
"What is going on?!" She wailed as she tried to awaken my father.
