That night, as she presumed, Elodie couldn't sleep. She was plagued by her thoughts and whenever she got close to slumber, a new thought would enter her mind and she was unable to drift off. All attempts were in vain. Sleep wouldn't come to her that night.
Elodie sighed as she rolled over on her side, facing the window. She watched the snow flurries as they danced around outside, flying this way and that. She never grew tired of winter. What a gift that was, since she would probably live in this land for a while.
There was one question that had crossed her mind more than once. What would she do after defeating Darcelle? If she did at all. Where would she go? She was sure that she would be allowed to stay in the palace, especially after what happened that night. But, was that what she wanted? To stay here forever and never see her family again? She supposed she could go back to them but, the people in this land had told her that one can never tell the humans of Earth about Talvimora or any of the other lands after you visit. You must hide your secret from the world. Forever.
Oh, well. Elodie had plenty of time to think about that. After all, she hadn't defeated Darcelle yet and that would be quite the task. Elodie let out a heavy sigh, hoping to clear her mind and let out her thoughts with her breath.
Elodie scowled and swung her legs over the side of the bed. Something to do. She just needed something to do to take her mind off of everything.
She reached under the bed for her stash of books and blindly pulled one out. She pulled out the one book that she hadn't thoroughly studied. Only skimmed. 'A Guide to Our Magical Abilities'. She opened the book to the first page and began reading.
In this text, all of the magical abilities of our people will be revealed to you. There are many things that you can do that you may not have known you could. Especially if you are new to this land. Below are some simple little spells that might make the little things in your life easier or, at least, more fun.
Globalt: This spell goes back centuries. By just uttering the simple word, the tips of your fingers will glow blue, creating light or just, something to gape at. Give it a try sometime.
Things Required:
-Fingers
-A voice
Elodie pursed her lips and glanced left and right. It was hard to believe that she could pull off such a feat. But, there were a lot of things in Talvimora that she wouldn't have thought possible. Why should this be any different?
Elodie rolled her eyes and smiled as she held her hand out in front of her. What an odd thing to do. She would've never seen herself trying such a thing before.
"Globalt," she whispered. She studied her hand for a moment, a little disappointed when nothing happened. Then, slowly but surely, a blue, luminous light began to grow under her skin. It got brighter and brighter until, sure enough, the space around her hand glowed with an eerie but comforting blue light. Her eyes grew wide as she studied her fingers in awe. Who would've thought? Only one question. How to make it stop. She glanced back down at the book, holding her glowing fingers over the text for light. It was much easier to read now.
(side note: to extinguish the light, simply recite 'parada'. The light will go out immediately.)
Elodie nodded and focused on her glowing hand.
"Parada," she recited obediantly. As the book said, the light immediately went out. She smiled with satisfaction. This book, she should study more for sure.
Elodie glanced at the large grandfather clock on the other side of the room. 3 o'clock. Well, there went her night. Oh, well. At least she learned something new. Elodie normally didn't like learning unless it was interesting. This certainly was.
