————————————————————————Since anyone could remember, the Maizono kingdom and the Kirigiri family had been carrying out the legend that'd they'd been cursed with.
Every 500 years, a dragon would awaken and take the princess of the Maizono kingdom. Just after, the Kirigiri family's first born was to embark on a quest to save the princess. After the member of the Kirigiri family saved the Maizono princess, they'd fall in love and later get married.
(Their children or their children's children and so on cannot count for the legend cause of incest ew.)
If the tradition wasn't followed strictly, the entire kingdom would be cursed until the tradition could be repeated. It had been learned from experience.
This year just happened to have been the 500th year. There was just one problem, though. The Kirigiri family's first born was a girl.
Kyoko, the first born, was a very well trained knight. (As the entire Kirigiri family was,) Kyoko was well fit for the job. Possibly more well fit than the thousands of people before her.
There was just one more problem, though.
The king and Kyoko's father were close friends, and they had been talking about this issue for the longest time. Both of their daughters were eighteen, which was a wonderful coincidence, but they just didn't approve of same sex marriage. (Dumb hoes, mind your own business dawg)
(A/N: never mind I'm changing the idea I had to make it waaaay more wildhfdhhd)
Their plan was to prevent the dragon from taking the princess in the first place. On the day that the dragon was set to take the princess, she'd be guarded with as many knights as they could find. (Everyone except the main character and the love interest are dumb in these kinda stories.)
Kyoko would be locked away in her room for the time being.
Since their father's were close, Kyoko and the princess, Sayaka, had become quite acquainted. They weren't told about the tradition until they were fifteen, but even then, Kyoko had sworn to rescue Sayaka. No matter what, Kyoko would save Sayaka from the dragon.
And they'd get married after, too.
Now, the two of them were in the garden together. Sayaka had snuck out of the castle, and Kyoko had lied and told her father that she was going shopping.
Sayaka was leaning on Kyoko's shoulder. Kyoko couldn't help but blush.
"Kyoko," Sayaka whined. (Wtf Sayaka)
"Yes?" Kyoko glanced around, trying to check if anyone else was here.
"What're we gonna do? It's almost time for.. you know." Sayaka seemed worried.
"Don't worry. I've already got a plan." Kyoko wasn't lying. She'd been wracking her brain for a plan for about a week now. Just last night, she'd come up with a solid idea.
"Really? Kyoko, you're wonderful." Sayaka paused for a moment trying to find words to convey her emotions. "I love you."
Kyoko stiffened. That was the first time Sayaka had said that to her! What should she do?
Without thinking about it anymore, Kyoko put her arm around Sayaka and muttered. "I love you too."
The silence here was comfortable. Wind rustled the leaves on the trees, and every now and then, you could hear a few birds chirping. Sayaka basked in Kyoko's warmth, wishing that she could stay in Kyoko's arms forever. She knew that she couldn't.
