Chapter 1 Why Me

3rd person POV

Today was just a day like any other for Coal he got out of bed, took a shower, got dressed and missed the bus.

This happened way to often he really needed to stop hitting the snooze button. This is the third time this week he missed the god damn bus. At least he had a bike so he didn't have to sprint the 3 miles to the precinct.

Finally after what felt like an eternity he arrived at the station with 20 seconds to spare. He booked it to the meeting room, opening the door to see everyone already in their seats.

Uhh why does sarg always have to start meetings early Coal thought. Coal quickly made his way to the only open seat which was in the back of the room next to his friend kirishima.

Well look who finally decided to show up said kiri in a smug voice. Coal gave him a death glare and turned his focus to the Sargent. In record time coal zoned out to the Sargent's droning progress report.

I need two cadets to go undercover at Storm coast Academy to gain information on the new drug, Zefy that's been circulating around there. Stated Sargent Mido.

Hmf good luck to the unlucky souls who get stuck with that terrible assignment Coal thought to himself. Those two cadets will be Mr Yoshi and Mr Hiro Mido finished.

What! Coal was suddenly zapped out of his daydream why did he have to be picked. Uhhh Coal inwardly groaned catching kirishima's attention wow someones not happy he teased.

You can't actually want to do this we have to go undercover in a high school this op could take months a pissed off coal sharply whispered to an amused kirishima. Of course i don't want to do this but I'm not going to whine about it like you kirishima replied plus it could be interesting.

Coal, Kirishima meet me in my office in five so I can brief you on your assignment Mido said concluding the meeting.

Coals POV
As soon as we were dismissed I beelined it to the break room where I grabbed a blueberry doughnut and a coffee since I didn't have time to eat anything because my stupid ass decided to sleep in.

As I waited for the five minutes to go by kirishima decided to sit by me and start a convo.

Why are you so upset about this assignment it's not like we haven't done stakeouts and gone undercover before he said. Hmf I let out a big sigh and said I just don't have good memories from high school I don't want to be reminded of some of the worst years of my life.

What happened kirishima said you're not hideous or weird I would think you would have been popular in high school. Not wanting to think about those hard times I glanced around trying to find anything to save me from this conversation.

Ahh my eyes landed on the clock only 1 minute remains before the briefing; I can stall for that long, right?

Uhh do you see that I pointed across the room to Jane Mikita a fellow cadet. What kirishima asked looking at her their is a stain in the shape of a smiley face on her shirt I lied.

Woah really he said, how can you see that your she's kinda far. Get a closer look I said it's crazy you have too see it.

Kirishima got a bit too close to Jane trying to see the nonexistent smiley face. What the hell are you doing Hiro she hissed clearly unhappy that kirishima was staring at her chest. I glanced back at the clock only 40 seconds left.

Ohh kirishima exclaimed realizing that he looked like a total pervert. I was just trying to see the smiley face stain on your shirt he said nervously.

What! do you think I'm stupid not even an idiot would believe that bogus story you just made up you pervert she said angrily before smacking him right on the face and storming out of the room.

20 seconds why was time passing so slowly now not only was I trying to by time so I wouldn't have to talk but I had to worry about kirishima killing me.

By now kirishima had recovered from the slap and was making his way toward me with a dangerous look in his eye. Kiri, buddy you okay that slap sounded kinda bad i said calmly.

Kirishima turned his face toward me showing off Jane's red handprint stuck to his face. There was no stain was there he said gritting his teeth.

No I said but look at the time we only have 10 seconds till the briefing I said backing up.

I can afford to be late to the meeting coal, he hissed. That's when I knew I fucked up and I sprinted out of the break room.

I could hear kirishimas footsteps getting louder behind me as I rushed down the halls dodging people.

Oops was that mido's office I just passed that means I had to turn around why universe I yelled in my thoughts.

Right when I was about to round a corner I quickly turned around sprinted towards kirishima then slid through his legs.

Wow the world seemed to be in slow motion. I saw the look of sheer shock and disbelief on kirishimas face as I winked at him while sliding under him.

Then in a blink of an eye everything was in normal speed again and I jumped to my feet and sprinted to the sargent's office.

Uhh I groaned as i collapsed into a comfy chair in midos office. Mido had a confused and concerned look on his face which only deepened when kiri burst through the door out of breath.

That was some x games level shit you just pulled out there seriously are we in the matrix, kiri said staring at me like I was a ghost. I'm not even mad anymore but wtf was that he wheezed.

Suddenly mido said I don't know what the hell just happened out there but keep it out there. Sorry sarg me and kirishima said in unison. Now let's get down to business Mido
