Chapter Thirteen

I sit by Octavia at lunch, she seems happy. I ignore the whole power thing, we shouldn't talk about it at school, people would think we were crazy or worse they would believe us. Although I need to talk to Drew about helping me practice it all, I don't think I can do it well without him, or if I did stop everything by myself I couldn't unfreeze everything. I went through the school day in a sort of mindless trance, probably not retaining much of the actual lessons. The school day ends, I look for Drew. I need to do this now because it's been stressing me out all weekend. I spot Drew and march over to him. I feel determined. When Drew sees me, his mouth turns up into a smile. When I get close enough for him to hear me properly, I say,

"Drew, we need to...hang out so w-I can practice." the way I phrased my sentence makes me wince. His smile doesn't falter and he replies,

"Okay, well, I can't now, but we should exchange numbers so we can figure out a day because you're right. We need to, we actually need to figure out a lot of things about it, not just help you practice. Have you tried practicing anything by yourself?"

"Yes, but, nothing seemed to work..."

"Hmmmm, walk with me?" I raise my eyebrow and nod my head and he says, "what have you tried?"

"Hmm, I tried doing weird things with my hands or something, and I also tried umm thinking of freezing everything, and yeah..."

"Okay, alright. I don't know if I will be able to help you much since my power doesn't need to be...' activated' for lack of a better word, in order to use, but Octavia, Paige, and stuff do know how to, it seems that the way you start and stop it is through your emotions. I frown.

"What, do you mean?"

"Well, there is a certain emotion that you're power responds too. You have to feel this emotion, maybe through a memory or something, and your power will respond to it."

"Oh...that sounds hard, so how do you figure out which one it is?" He shrugs, after a moment of thinking, he finally says,

"Trial and error I guess..."

"Ugh, that will take forever." He shrugs again. I stop myself from rolling my eyes, we stop in front of what I presume to be his car,

"Okay, so let's exchange numbers and we can figure out a day to do all of this," I hand him my phone and he types his number in and texts himself from my phone, "Well, I have to get going, but I will see you soon." He says this with a little wave and smile, I smile and wave back and walk away before he drives away. I need to find Brant and get going myself, not that I have anything to do once I get home, maybe Octavia can hang out again. I find Brant and Octavia and we head back to my house.

"Octavia?" She glances at me,

"What's up?"

"Do you want to hang out today, we can do our homework together then go to a coffee shop or something..."

"That sounds fun, I believe I can, let me just ask my mom."

"Goodie." She takes out her phone and texts her mom and then she turns back to me,

"Yeah, I can." We arrive at my house and head to my room. We first do the annoying homework, when we finish we walk to a coffee shop. We find seats with our cups.

"So, I do want to ask you about how you activate your powers, er maybe we should talk about this a little later? When we're not so in public?"

"Yeah, that sounds like a better idea, but I wanted to say real quick Ben is researching more about...it all and it doesn't look good."
