Best Friends

I was sitting on the couch in the new base, Cassie across from me, both of us were just scrolling through our phones, I smiled as I looked at my photos, I had so many of me and my friends, it was nice. I heard the zeta tubes go off announcing the return of Jaime and Bart, I smiled when I felt someones arms drape over my shoulders and rest their head on my shoulder, I ruffled the persons hair and then rested my hand in their hair, occasionally dragging my fingers through it.
"Hi Jaime, how'd the mission go?" He grunted before burying his face into the crook of my neck, I felt his lips move against my neck as he answered my question.
"Went well, long. I'll go shower then we can go watch the sunset, ok hermosa?" I smiled and pressed a kiss to the top of Jaime's head before nodding. I returned my gaze to my phone as Jaime stood and left the living room, I noticed Cassie was staring at me. I looked at her and rose a brow at her, she pointed in the direction Jaime disappeared in and then pointed at me.
"Are you two.... Ya know..." I chuckled and shook my head, I turned my phone off and put it away before giving Cassie my undivided attention.
"Lots, and I mean lots of people ask us that, but no, Jaime and I are not together. He and I grew up together and are practically joined at the hip, when the scarab attached itself to Jaime he immediately came to my place for help, and when I first discovered I could imitate peoples voices, I ran to Jaime's. He and I have no secrets between each other and we are both completely comfortable with each other, we're just friends, best friends, but just that. Not friends with benefits, not boyfriend and girlfriend, just friends. Although.... We have seen the other naked, but that was when we were really little, we'd play in the mud and get so dirty our parents just threw us into the tub together. We've also both accidentally walked in on the other getting changed when he was staying at my place, it doesn't really phase either of us though." I shrugged, Cassie stared at me mouth gaping open before jumping up and waving her hands everywhere.
"How are you two not together?!?!?!?" I quirked a brow at her before sighing, I stood up as well and ran a hand down my face before looking down the hall Jaime had disappeared down.
"Because Jaime is worried about me. He and I know everything about each other, and I mean everything. Because of that he is protective over me, just like I can be of him, but he gets more protective over me when it comes to relationships because of my past. I've been used by people so many times, people have thought they loved me and then when someone else came along they just dropped me, Jaime has been there for me through it all, and he doesn't want to do that. He doesn't want to date me only to discover that the love he feels for me is the love family has for one another." I could tell this annoyed Cassie but I placed a hand on her shoulder and just shook my head. "He means well Cassie, it doesn't bother me, I know he just wants to keep me safe. Eventually he'll come to his senses, after all, he and I know everything about the other, he'll come around." I shrugged and removed my hand from her shoulder before turning around upon hearing Jaime's footsteps, I smiled at him before jogging towards him and grasping his hand, he smiled and intertwined our fingers before he and I left the base, waving at Cassie and Bart as we left. I got an idea and took off running away from him, he laughed and ran after me, after awhile I stopped and started spinning around, hands raised towards the sky, I giggled as it started to rain. I noticed Jaime was staring at me, I looked over at him and tilted my head to the side.
"Jaime? Que pasa?" (What's wrong) Jaime raised his hand and brushed some of my hair behind my ear and smiled at me, as the rain fell down around us.
"I'm an idiot, I've been hiding because I was scared, do you think you could forgive me and give us a shot? Por favor?" (Please) I smiled brightly at him before jumping and hugging him, he wrapped his arms around me and stumbled, he barely kept us from falling over, but we both laughed. "So, that's a yes?" I grinned and pulled back to stare into his eyes, I nodded and we both stayed there in the rain for a long time.
