The plan

"Lets go there now and take the kids with us!" Patton demanded. "No, we can't do it yet, we need to learn a bit about their schedule because we can't charge into her house and take the kids while she is there," Logan protested.

So every day for the next few weeks, they studied the family next door. The woman hardly ever left the house and the kids never did, not even to play in the garden. The beating and crying sounds continued throughout. However, every Monday and Thursday, the woman left the house for the day. Logan guessed it was to do work because otherwise there would be no way for them to pay for the house. Patton occasionally went over to the house to talk to the woman and try to get her to open up but every time he came she got more annoyed and so Patton decided to stop going over. Its not like she let him go inside. He did manage to get hold of one piece of information though, which was that she had no partner and was the only adult in the house. This was useful as they knew that the children would be alone when she went out so they could sneak in then.

They informed Janus of what was going on and he agreed to help them. As there were three children, they could take one each which would be more efficient. The final plan was decided on a Saturday for the next Monday. The plan was this: when the woman left the house for work, they would break in and take the children out and into their house. They then would contact child services and they would use the evidence that Patton and Logan had gathered to determine whether she could look after her kids well enough. If it was decided that she was not suitable, she would lose custody and if she was suitable, she would regain custody of her kids and Patton and Logan wouldn't be allowed to intrude any more. Janus stayed over the night of the Sunday so they could get up early and leave.

The whole night Patton was shaking with nervous jitters. "I'm so scared Logie, what if we can't get in, what if she doesn't leave, what if we can't get the kids to come with us?" he fretted. Logan did his best to calm him down, reassuring him that the lock on their door was weak and flimsy (they had seen it) and she had always left every week and the kids would have to come with but he was also scared because he had never seen Patton so worried before.

Janus was also wide awake in the other room, feeling nervous for tomorrow but as much as he hated to admit it, he was also happy to be included in something. A scar on his face he's had since birth made it kinda hard to make friends so he was lucky that Patton even wanted to date him (back in high school) even if it didn't last. He was very happy that they were still friends, although he would never admit it. He also hoped that after this they wouldn't forget about him as he lived alone and was quite lonely.

THE NEXT MORNING

They all managed to get to sleep finally and they woke up, got ready and waited for the womans car to leave. Patton was gripping tight onto Logan while they waited and Logan had his arm round him reassuringly. Finally they saw her car pull up out of the drive and they waited until she was well gone to leave their house with the fence cutters to break the lock. The three men subtly walked over to her house and Logan slipped the fence cutters over the lock and cut until they heard a snapping sound and the door swung open.

What they saw was even worse than they had imagined...
