quick shoutout to everyone who continued to show the original and the new version of this story love. it made me want to keep writing the original, and it makes me want to keep updating this one, testing my skills to see if i've bettered at all in the last five years.

and five years? i can't believe i wrote the original five fuckin' years ago. i've changed so much as a person, i just hope i've bettered in that time. even just a little bit.

Jango smiled, looking at Daniel while she opened and closed the scissors quickly, a bright green comb in her mouth. It made her eyes pop, showing just how green they were, especially against her red hair.

"Ready?" She asked around the comb.

Daniel wasn't necessarily ready, but he wasn't against getting his hair cut off. He was excited, just apprehensive. What would his mother say when she saw? Or his father? Or his sisters? Would they be mad? Probably. But maybe they'd think it looked cute? God, he hoped they did. He could handle hearing them adore it, calling him cute instead of scolding him for cutting off his precious hair.

Zaila, Cody, Carlos, Chrissie, Emerson and Roami were standing around Jango, all smiling and offering little bits of courage and excitement while Jango went to stand behind him.

"You're sure you know what you're doing?" Daniel asked, immediately regretting asking in case she said anything but, "of course."

"Yeah," she said confidently. "I spent years cutting my hair to make it look more feminine. Cutting it won't be any problem, trust me."

He didn't know if she would make it look more like a girl's haircut or not, but really anything shorter than where it was now would be great.

He smiled when she braided it and cut it close to his neck, tossing the braided hair onto the ground next to his feet. It felt so much lighter immediately. She cut it down close to his head, slowly moving up to even it all out. She tousled it, messing it up while she stood in front of him examining it against his face to make sure everything was even. As she cut, shorter and shorter pieces of hair started to fall around him, dusting his shoulders and legs.

"Your parents'll love it, I bet," Cody offered, making a face that didn't necessarily tell him that she believed it.

"God, I hope so," he mumbled.

Jango was finally satisfied, standing with her hands on her hips. "Okay, hon. I think we're done here."

"Bruh." Emerson sounded shocked. Daniel laughed nervously, running his hand through it a couple times. It keep falling short so much faster than he expected.

"Four years of growing this shit out," he said in awe. And ten minutes to cut it all off.

Chrissie smiled. "You look good."

"Not that he didn't already," Carlos said louder than he meant to. He smiled and laughed when everyone gave him bad looks or smacked his arm, eventually laughing with him. Daniel blushed, but he'd already been getting sunburnt and it wasn't very obvious that he was blushing now.

Jango looked pretty proud of it. "I'll touch it up a couple times before the summer ends, if you want," she offered. "Free of charge."

Daniel rolled his eyes. Of course it was free of charge. He'd never had a job before and even if he had money, he wouldn't have had any of it with him now.

He stood up and shook his head like a dog, the loose hair flying everywhere around him. He giggled when everyone shouted at him, stepping back to avoid the hair.
