Strange encounter

After my short escape from reality, I regained my consciousness. "That was good while it lasted", I said while taking my last glimpse of the sky before walking away. While walking down the isle someone caught my attention. There was a girl who seemed to be isolated from the world. It was almost as if she was in a daze, although there was nothing to marvel about... Except the birds maybe. Huh, another person who doesn't want to be on this stupid trip. I kinda wonder what's going on in that little nogin of hers, I thought. At the moment I hadn't realize I had been standing in the center of the deck, staring at some girl who was minding her own business. " Oyyy lad, seems that little lady caught your attention ", the captain said aloud, along with a slap to my back. He definitely did startle me. " Uhh, no sir you've misunderstood the si-", he cut me off before I could finish. "Nah no need to be shy, I know what it's like to be in love" He said happily. By this time the girl had already dissapeard. Hopefully she didn't hear what captain said, or she'll think I'm weird too, I thought to myself. After hearing a lecture about being starstruck from captain, I continued to explore the ship untill mother called. A staff told me my mum was calling for me. I then hurriedly went back to our room. "Ah Scott, how did it go? " She asked. Not wanting to tell her all the bad things that happened today. Like being called weird, and the captains lecture etc. I told her a lie instead. "Today was alright, I met a lot of new people and even met the captain", I replied with a fake smile. " See this trip isn't as bad after all, now is it? " She said with a little giggle. Not that bad..., I said to myself. "Come and eat, your brothers and I ate already." She said after giving me a peck on the cheek. I wiped the kiss off. " Thanks mum, but I'm not a baby anymore... So stop with the kisses please!", I pleaded. She laughed and went to lay down with my brothers who were fast asleep. I finally finished my supper after 20 delicious minutes of food and quiet. But nevertheless, the girl was still on my mind. If only the captain hadn't interrupted, I could've probably made a new friend today. But then again... Our encounter was a bit strange, with me just staring at her like that. With my determination to find that girl I decided to sneak out to the same spot as soon as my mum went to sleep. Night had finally hit, and I was ready to leave the room. I walked to the door, trying my best not to make a sound while leaving. The door made a little Creek sound, but wasn't loud enough to wake them up. "Finally, now I can find her... But wait" I said realising something. I hadn't seen the girls face!. This meant that my means of escape was useless. Even so I still made my way to the upper deck, in hopes that I would see her again. I finally reached the top, and there was that silhouette. It was just like the one of the girl I had seen before. I then found the courage to speak to her. I walked over and stood beside her. "Soo, is this perhaps your favorite spot?", I asked. She looked at me for the first time, and her reply was silence. Plain old awkward silence. " Can't ya see she doesn't want ya! " Said a random boy passing by. "She's a tough little one. I can tell ya that.
I've already tried. So you might as well go back to your bed. " He said before continuing his journey. I looked over to the girl who dissapeard again!?. "She was just here a while ago... " I said in awe. She's not only tough and silent, but sneaky also, I thought. With a sigh of defeat, I headed back to my room with a pending question.

Why does she dissapear when I look away?
