Chapter 2

“Nicole!”

“What?”

“Aaroosa invited us to an Eid party. We’re leaving on Friday, I think.”

“YAY! I get to celebrate Eid!”

“You would’ve celebrated it with or without a party,” I said, rolling my eyes and walking to my room. I did my night routine and climbed right into bed. I’ll just do all my homework tomorrow at the library. I fell asleep quickly and before I knew it, it was morning. I shut my alarm clock off and got out of bed. The cold water from the tap woke me up. I got dressed, went to the kitchen and got my breakfast. I silently ate with my dog Loki who really wanted a bite. I gave him the rest of my breakfast with a kiss. I loved that puppy. I walked outside and felt a change in weather. A chill went down my spine causing me to shiver. I hugged my North Face closer to my chest. I walked to my class and sat next to Aaroosa. “Hey, I wanted to tell you that today is Thursday,” I told her. “yeah, I realized that yesterday. We can leave tomorrow morning at like 8. It doesn’t take like that long.” “Cause you and Nicole will be sleeping while I’m stuck driving.” “Stop complaining, Nikki. You have the best car. It’s only about a 4 hour drive. If we leave on time, we can get there before 12.” “I can do the math, Roos. Anyway, do you want to stay the night? That way we can just leave together. Save the extra stop.” “Sounds good! I’ll just have to go home to pack though. I’ll be there by 8.” “Alright, now let’s pay attention.”

Class dragged on but it wasn’t that painful. Aaroosa and I played a good game of tic-tac toe. After class, we went to lunch. Nandos was always a pleasure to my stomach. Aaroosa was excited to see her family. It wouldn’t be my first time meeting her family. Nothing remotely interesting happened during the day. I was either texting or sleeping half of the time. Yet, I still wondered how I did well on tests. After classes, I went to the library. I focused on getting my work done so I would be home on time. Nicole and I didn’t have a set dinner time, but I did all the cooking.

After finishing up all my homework, I was very proud of myself. I walked home by myself, in the cold, with random people honking their horns at me, seriously? When I got home, I was greeted by the little joy. Loki kept jumping on me. “Hi, booboo! Muah!” I opened his treat box and gave him one. I’m a little crazy when it comes to dogs. Growing up I wasn’t allowed to have any. I love them. I checked the answering machine and was greeted by a message from my mother. “Hi beta, I just wanted to know how you were doing. I haven’t talked to you in a while. Call me.” I smiled. Although my mother was a little annoying, I loved her. I decided I would call her later. I went to the kettle and boiled water for me. I walked to my bedroom, changed into some sweats, and blasted my iPod on my iHome. I danced around while waiting for the water.

Making myself a cup of tea, I heard the front door open. “Nikki?” “In the kitchen!” Nicole walked in with Aaroosa and hugged me from behind. “I missed you!” I rolled my eyes and turned to face her. “You saw me yesterday.” “It’s been a day too long.” I giggled a bit and took my tea to the living room. “You two are cute,” Aaroosa said. I thought you wouldn’t be here till later.” “Got done early. What are we eating?” I looked at the time 7:30, boy did time pass by quickly. “I don’t know. I can make something or we can order.” “Let’s order and just chill,” Nicole suggested. “Alright, Chinese good for everyone” Both of the girls nodded. About 30 minutes later, the food arrived. After paying and getting the food to everyone, we dug in. “What movie?” I asked the girls, who were not taking breaks between eating. “Guys!” they looked at me, dropping their forks. “What movie?” “Shall we go Bollywood tonight?” Aaroosa asked. Nicole nodded her head, “that’s a good idea.” “Bollywood it is,” I said. I picked one of my favorites and put it in. walking back to the couch, Loki came in front of me. “WATCH OUT!” both of the girls yelled. “Loki, you can’t just come in front of me like that! I could’ve stepped on you,” I said, picking him up and placing him on the couch next to me. Loki is like my baby if you couldn’t tell. I grabbed my food off the table and pressed play for the movie. The trailers and other adverts started playing. “Nicole, I was just thinking, we should go out more. We spend too much time with this dog.” Aaroosa laughed at my thought. “True, but what are we supposed to do? We don’t have a social life anymore.” “This weekend, let’s go out. Aaroosa, take us around your town, deal?” “Deal. But out as in clubs?” “Yeah, might as well take advantage of the time,” I responded. They nodded their heads.
