yes, the title is crack, this whole fic is crack, and i hope you enjoy that. honestly, i found parts of this fucking hilarious (if you don't laugh, it says more about me than you dw, i have a bad taste in humour). and YES i was indulgent w LotR discourse, spencer (*Prince Dickhead)  bashing, bad humour and fluff dOES IT LOOK LIKE I CARE? oh btw, i'm pretty sure that my tense switches a lot and this ain't beta-ed at ALL, but i wanna just publish this so #yolo, amirite?

* maybe the real treasure was me dying at my own fic while everyone else is v concerned about my health *(i'm OKAY guys)

on a more serious note, lot's of things are happening around the world, so make sure you make whatever change you can (whether that be through educating yourself, signing petitions, donating, protesting, or more!) and that you also take care of yourself.  do good, be well. <3

The ring in Alex's jacket pocket seemed to be burning through the fabric, the heat searing into her skin.

Nelly, none the wiser, leaned into Alex's side, arms looped together, talking animatedly about her busy day at work. After months of busting her ass, she finally got the promotion she had been vying for, and even with the bundle of nerves nestled deep in Alex's gut, she couldn't have been prouder of her girlfriend.

Hence the reservations for dinner at the new restaurant that opened up a few streets down from their apartment.

Of course, Nelly just thought that Alex was taking her out to celebrate, but Alex had much bigger, diamond-and-sapphire-set-in-a-platinum-band type plans. And she felt like throwing up.

It had been almost three years since they finally got together, and two and a half since Nelly caught onto Alex's hints for her to move in ("How was I supposed to know you wanted me to move in?" "I literally stuck a copy of the keys onto your fridge!"). Not that it was much of a move, considering that Nelly spent almost all of her free time at the house anyway.

And now, she was going to propose.

They had talked about marriage and their future together before, so Alex was sure that it wasn't going to come as much of a surprise. She wasn't really worried that Nelly was going to say no, but there was still a possibility, and she was the absolute best at looking calm and collected while she melted down from chronic overthinking inside.

"Babe?" Nelly asked, eyes soft as she nuzzled closer, cold as always. "You okay?"

"Yeah," Alex easily shot back, smiling. "Just thinking about dessert."

Nelly grinned. "Why, cinnamon buns, of course. Could we order anything else?" Looking at the way her eyes glimmered with mirth at their own little inside joke, Alex felt herself fall a little more for the brilliant woman in front of her. She knew that she loved Penelope Cortez long before they ate those cinnamon buns at the mall during the Christmas rush three years ago, but it marked a turning point when Alex began to seriously consider that maybe Nelly liked her back in the same way.

"I don't think they have cinnamon buns on the menu," she shot back instead, squeezing Nelly's hand when she pouted. "I'll tell you what; we can go get some from the bakery down the street after dinner."
