A/N: So this was a cute idea that was bouncing around my head, which became much much longer than originally planned. It's not super technically brilliant, but I think the idea behind it is sweet, so yeah. XD Also, as a small trigger warning, a bad relationship alluded as abusive does make a small appearance, just as a heads up. Hope you enjoy and have a wonderful day!

do good, be well. <3

REN AND ISIAH'S VERY COOL PRETTY MUCH A BFF BRACELET NOT-A-MIXTAPE PLAYLIST

...

Ren wouldn't be able to tell you when she first became friends with Isaiah Holmes. In books and movies and show, there was always that meet-cute, that moment they first spoke to each other that best friends were able to recite off the tops of their heads.

For Renuka Mukherjee and Isiah Holmes, there was no such thing. After they met on both of their first day of the internship at their workplace, there was simply a day that Ren woke up, and realized that Isiah was her best friend and she was his, and that was that.

He was her person. The first person she confided secrets and information to, the person who she felt no discomfort around ever, the person who she seemed to be in utter sync with, even when they were fighting. She always scrawled his information down when forms asked for an emergency contact, he had the spare keys to her apartment, they could go weeks without seeing or talking to each other and then pick off like they never left off.

One day, she woke up, and realized that Isiah had filled a place in her life that she never knew was vacant.

...

"We need a mixtape!" Isiah proclaimed as he slid into their usual booth. He wasn't sure fi he was impressed or worried that he and Ren had already frequented Aurora's, the closest bar to their work, to have earned a regular booth.

In any case, it wasn't the time to be analyzing their life choices, he had come to make his case for a much more important subject matter.

Ren looked up, tilting her head at him. "And how are you planning on making it?"

He beamed, pleased that she wasn't fighting against the idea already. If there was one thing he had already learned about Ren in their couple months of friendship, it was that despite being so kind and sweet, she had a competitive streak that made her ready to square up with just about anyone.

"Spotify." His grin grew wider at her confused look. "Now don't tell me you've never heard of it. It's an app, which allows you to stream music-"

"I know what Spotify is," she quickly defended, lightly knocking her feet into his. "But I believe a mixtape on Spotify is just called a playlist. Now don't tell me you've never heard of it. It's-"

"Oh hush," he told her without any heat, already fishing for his phone.

"Fine. Why do we need a mixtape slash playlist?"

"Because," he started, turning his phone around so she could see what was on his screen. "This way you can easily find all of my song suggestions."

Her mouth dropped a little as she picked up his phone, closely examining it. He watched her carefully, now certain it was a small smile pulling up at the corners of her mouth. It was a lofty move, making the playlist and already putting music on it, but he was sure it was paying off.

"You trying to convert my music taste, Holmes?" she accused, eyes twinkling with amusement as she put the phone back onto the table.

"You're the only person I trust with my music," he said, not holding back. Surprise flashed in her eyes, taken aback by his brazen honestly. It was no secret between them; music was what drew them into their first conversation, and it deeply important to both of them. Still, laying out feelings in the open was something that he was figuring out that Ren didn't do often.
