"you're going out with that hyunjin boy tonight? again?" jeongin frowns slightly as he walks in between seungmin and jisung, cold hands shoved in his pockets.

"okay, seriously, what's your problem with him?" seungmin asks defensively.

"i just think he's bad news!" jeongin retorts, crossing his arms, "my best friend senses always tingles whenever we're around him! and it's not the good kind."

"first off, notice how he always avoids jisung and i whenever we're around him? secondly, he never seems to attend classes! he's not in any of our classes, and i've asked around, and nobody's heard of him. don't you find it suspicious?"

"you've been saying this for two months now, when are you ever going to give up?" seungmin snaps crossly, tired of hearing his best friend's "concerns" over and over again.

"i'm just watching out for you!" jeongin shoots back, "i don't want anyone dating my best friend just because of his money!"

"and i don't need any looking after for goodness sake! why can't you just be happy for me?"

"alright stop!" jisung stops in his tracks as he glares at the two, "this is pointless! let's not fight about this anymore. please. i'm begging the both of you."

"you're right," jeongin mutters quietly, turning to seungmin with apologetic eyes, "i'm sorry min. i won't bother you on this anymore."

"i'm sorry for snapping at you, too. and really, i appreciate that you're watching out for me," seungmin says sincerely, and jeongin shakes his head with a smile.

"so, we still up for coffee then?"

"you bet."

-

"where are we headed?" seungmin asks curiously as he watches the world speed past him through the car window, hands neatly folded on his lap, "we've been driving for quite a while."

"you'll see," hyunjin answers simply, keeping his eyes focused on the road, refusing to make any eye contact with the younger.

seungmin didn't question it. instead, he turned back to the window, watching the blurs speed by.

soon enough, they eventually arrive at a desolate area, where an old and abandoned building stood.

parking his car in front of the deserted region, hyunjin turns off the engine and smiles weakly at the brunette.

"let's go."

-

"i thought you moved from gwangju, how do you know this place?" seungmin asks as they climbed up the what seemed to be never-ending flights of stairs, all rickety and creaking from age.

hyunjin had brought seungmin over to his absolute favourite place in the world- an abandoned building that no one but him knew of.

he loved to go up to the roof and look at the stars and city, to watch the sunset or the sunrise. he always came here when he found life too bearing and miserable, or when he needed some time to himself, to whenever he felt like he needed escape reality.

this place gave him peace and privacy, a breath of fresh air. a place that he didn't need to constantly look over his shoulder for cops, or worry about being caught by a detective.

but it's no longer a secret now, since seungmin now knew about it. but strangely, hyunjin didn't mind, if it meant sharing his special place with his victim.

well, he was going to die soon anyway, right?

"oh i found this place when i was exploring the city myself," hyunjin lies smoothly, and seungmin doesn't question any further, too tired from walking up so many steps.

once entering the roof, a wave of fresh air hits them, seungmin running out to explore the abandoned rooftop.

"wow! look at the city! isn't it pretty?" he gushes happily, fluffy hair flapping in the wind.

seungmin runs over to the ledge and stares down at the city lights below him, breathless from both climbing the stairs and from the spectacular view.

"hey, be careful. don't lean too close to the ledge, you might fall."

the words slip so naturally out of hyunjin's mouth, that he said it without thinking.

what was he saying?

if say seungmin had fallen from the building, it would have been a win for the hitman. he would have been able to get rid of seungmin, and yet he still wouldn't have had any blood on his hands.

but instead, he had destroyed a perfect chance to do so.

but why did it feel so... right?

now that he thought about it, he seemed to have a soft spot for the younger. cooking breakfast for him in the mornings, treating him to meals, going out on regular dates.

just seeing seungmin's smile could make his heart do somersaults. how could something so simple bring him so much joy?

he had always reminded himself that he was just doing all this just to gain the brunette's trust, but honestly, he knew that deep down he was just kidding himself.

"get over here hyunjin!"

seungmin's honey voice pulls hyunjin out of his troubles and back into reality, and hyunjin throws him a shallow smile before joining him by the ledge, to admire the stars above them together.

but not even a few seconds in, hyunjin found himself staring at seungmin rather than the stars. no matter how many times he had tried to focus on admiring the stars, his eyes always found a way back to the shorter instead.

the way seungmin looked so content with star gazing leaves hyunjin with butterflies in his stomach, and he couldn't help but smile faintly too, seeing that the night sky reflected in seungmin's eyes, making them look like they were sparkling.

he's even more beautiful than the stars.

breathing in slowly, he closes his eyes as he lets the wind caress his face. the peaceful silence never fails to calm him down.

hyunjin takes this time to reminisce the last few months they had spent together. taking this time to think about every little detail he loved about the younger; his mind reeled with all the reasons why seungmin was perfect.

the way seungmin laughs after hyunjin says something cheesy. the way seungmin giggles and blushes after they kiss. the way seungmin gets shy after hyunjin showers him in complements. the way his eyes light up when he spots something he likes. the cute way he imitates a puppy. the way he makes my heart beat.

but his smile soon fades and was replaced with a conflicted gaze and a sinking feeling in his stomach when reality finally hits him.

he had broken an unspoken rule of being a hitman.

never fall for your victims.
