I reached over to check the time on my phone. 11:20. I took a deep breath. I stared at my reflection in the bathroom mirror. My long dark blonde wavy hair looked frizzy and flat. My eyes appeared a much darker grey in the lighting then they really were. My cheeks where flushed of color. My light brown freckles had started to fade since summer time. My lips looked a dark pink, they were chapped from the dry air.
I wore a black hoodie, leggings, and black converse. I had decided to meet Landon. I needed answers. They should be good ones too if he went through all the trouble of breaking and entering my house to give me that letter! After all the crazy stuff going on in my life, I wanted to make sure that I could defend myself if something bad happened. In my pocket I held one of dads collectable pocket knifes, and a can of pepper spray. I couldn't imagine myself harming anyone, but if it came down to it I would.
The old Brooke Fields playground just so happened to be about 4 miles away from my house. I had no car, but I did have an old scooter! It was technically my moms, but she gave it to me. It was a rusted yellow thing, that drove up to a whooping 15 m.p.h. But it would do for tonight.
I checked my clock again. 11:30. I took a shaky breath. Everything is going to be okay, I told myself. I exited my house, locked the door then went to rummage up the scooter. Since any one rarely drove on the road I decided to drive in the middle of the 2 lanes. The light on the scooter was dim and gave off very little light which was uncomforting. It also made an eerie loud sound that caused my muscles to tense up. The wind rippled through my hair and soon my body went numb from the coldness.
At 11:55 I arrived at the park. I parked my scooter up against a large oak tree. The park was sure abandoned. From the two lane you had to walk down a small dirt road through a bunch of trees to get to the small circular area of land where an old tin swing set, teeter totters, and slide sat.
Once when I was 7 I decided to run away from home cause of a bad fight I'd gotten into with mom. I walked all the way to Brooke Fields playground, but the place creeped me out so much I decided to walk back home. I was only gone for 3 hours, my parents didn't even notice me missing.
I cursed at myself for not bringing a real flash light! The flashlight on my iphone 4 would have to do. The moon gave off some light casting creepy shadows from the trees down onto the ground. I walked around the park and took a seat on the bottom of a tin slide. It felt cold beneath me. I shivered.
12:07 and still no Landon. The longer I waited the more my fear seemed to grow. I didn't have a good feeling about this. I stood up and started moving towards the dirt trail back to my scooter. I couldn't believe I got all worked up to come down here for nothing!
The creaky sound of a swing stopped me dead in my tracks. I turned around to face the noise, breathing heavily. I clicked my phone, but it wasn't turning on. I clicked it again and again, but nothing happen. The battery must've died. So this is the end, I thought. The end of my life.
"Abrielle is that you?" A voice spoke up. A second later I heard a click then was blinded by a bright light. Landon walked over to meet me stopping about 5 feet away. He held a flash light in his hand and wore a tight fitting white shirt and black shorts which was very cool for the weather.
Suddenly I was over come with a feeling of confusion and self regret. This boy had broken into my house while I was in it why the heck did I agree to come here to meet him? He could be dangerous! I gripped on to the pocket knife in my pocket.
"Abrielle, it's okay I wont hurt you. I can tell you are quit alarmed. I'm here to shut- umm give you answers." He raced a shaky hand through his brown wavy hair. I could tell he was nervous too and this boasted up my confidence.
