As the two of us climbed out of Diane's bedroom window, I felt the cool midnight air brush over my skin. It administered another dose of vitality, one that I didn't need after how much the anxiety of Diane finding us had kept my senses alert.

Just as we reached the edge of the garage roof, and I looked down at the stone path leading to their garden fence, a strange, animalistic sound startled me. I looked a couple of inches upward at a rather ugly cat that sat on the fence down below.

"I don't wanna go near it, what if it's got rabies?" I worried with a serious tone, Lilly turned around with her 'holding in laughter' smile, trying not to burst out. After having ransacked and robbed someone's property, I wasn't quite in the mood for laughing personally. I held Emily's tablet in my hands, checking for any other messages.

Lilly began to descend from the roof, sitting down on the edge and dangling her legs down. She then lowered herself off the edge a little and dropped down. She landed square on her feet and looked up at me.

"Are you okay?"

"Breezy."

I followed her actions, expecting the same result. Of course, instead of executing a perfect landing, I tumbled once I landed on my feet, my hands touching the ground. I picked myself back up and we made a beeline straight for Lilly's car, jumping into our respective seats.

Without even uttering a word, Lilly started the car and exited the cul-de-sac as soon as was humanly possible. "Well, that went well," she panted, removing her hood once we were back on the main road.

"Yeah, if you count falling off of a building and nearly being attacked by a feral cat 'going well'," I joked weakly.

Lilly adjusted her rearview mirror. "At least we didn't get caught. Plus we actually got what we came for. The truth. Or part of it, anyway," she went on.

"I'm just glad we were successful. Imagine if our conspiracy had been false and we'd just broken the law for no reason."

She let out a sigh as she concentrated on the road and made a turn. "Me too, we're getting pretty good at this whole detective thing, aren't-" she was suddenly cut off by the buzzing sound of her phone within the small storage space between the wheel and the glove compartment.

"Shit, it's Jake," she grunted and pulled her phone out before handing it to me. I took it and answered his call, his voice filling the car.

"Where are you?" he asked with concern, and without a greeting.

Lilly looked at me for support, and my immediate response was a shrug. "Uhh... shopping?" She tried, cringing to herself.

"Seriously, at one in the morning? Where the fuck are you?"

In defeat, Lilly looked over at me as if to say 'We're fucked'. "Okay don't get mad, but we were just at Emily's house-"

"What the fuck, why? She's at Cameron's right now," I could almost hear him trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together in his head.

"She's in danger, Jake. Charlie is seriously not right in the head, we have to get to her before it's too late," she explained, hoping he'd understand.

He let out a deep sigh. "Of course you do, you've always got these theories going on about everyone."

"And how often are they true?" she retaliated.
