Max’s POV
“We have arrived, son!” Dad exclaimed the moment we have arrived at the neighbouring pack’s border.

Geez, we have arrived, yes, but specifically speaking, AT THE BORDERS!

“Dad, we’re not at the pack’s house yet!” I couldn’t help but groan in frustration.

Before we have arrived at the neighbouring pack’s borders, mom and dad wouldn’t stop pestering me and that they kept on saying stuffs related to mates and finding my own—they even did a story telling about how they met, fell in love and blah blah blah!

Mom stopped dad and me before we could argue any further, “Both of you, stop it. Act like your age for goodness sake! Especially you, Max Chancelohr Lowell! You’re an alpha! Act like one!”

Dad stuck his tongue at me secretly. I couldn’t help but scoff at this action of his.

I then crossed both of my arms in annoyance. Childish! My dad is childish as fuck!

ARRIVING at the pack’s main house, A man in his mid-40’s, together with a woman with the same age—which according to my guess is his wife, greeted us.

“ Maximorian! Chlariselle!” the man gave off a goofy grin. Dad and mom immediately went towards them.

Mom gave the woman a hug while a smile was plastered on her lips while dad fist bumped with the man.

“It’s been a while, Lyx! Vantice!” dad greeted back.

These people look familiar but I couldn’t seem to put a finger on who they both are. “Ah, before I forgot!” dad, motioned me to come near them in which I immediately obliged. “Look who came with us!” he added.

“Oh my gosh, is that Max?!” the woman moved hastily towards me and envelop me with an embrace. “You’ve grown so much!”

“Uh..” I couldn’t seem to find any words and aside from that, I don’t remember her name nor the man’s.

Noticing my state, a wide smile crept on her lips and a chuckle escaped from it. “It’s me, aunt Vantice! You forgot me already? I’m aunt Vantice! And that man..” she pointed the man she’s with, “..Is your uncle Lynx!”

“Oh..” Now I remember them, though just vaguely.. And if I’m not mistaken, they have a daughter.

“Come in, come in!” Aunt Vantice gestured us to come in.

Entering their domain, my nose immediately caught a smell that I can’t describe, it’s faint but it was enough to awaken my wolf, Cerulean, and make it go hype.

‘Mate is near!’

‘What? Are you sure?’ I asked, wanting assurance. I don’t want to raise my hopes high again.

Cerulean scoffed grumpily at me. ‘Of course, dimwit! Why would I lie to you?’

Well, Cerulean has a good point. Why would he lie? It’s his mate for freaks sake--!

‘And yours too!’ he interjected.

I shrugged him off and focused on the smell.

My eyes immediately roamed around the room, desperately looking for my mate. I couldn’t believe it! My mate is near!

My eyes continued searching together with my nose but to my disappointment, the faint smell disappeared and I still see no sign of her.

I couldn’t help but heave out a heavy sigh.

“So much for sensing my mate..” I mumbled to myself.

“Have a seat!” Uncle Lynx said cheerfully.

“I’ll go and grab something to bite.” Aunt Vantice blurted out and skipped towards the kitchen to grab something.

Minutes later, she came back holding a tray filled with a jar of orange juice and a bunch of biscuits and cookies with both of her hands.

“By the way, where’s your daughter?” Mom asked all of the sudden.

Come to think of it, I can’t seem to find their daughter anywhere.

“Oh, she’s out for her usual daily run routine.” Aunt Vantice answered as she filled the glasses with juice.

“Did she find her mate already?” Dad asked as he grabs a glass of juice.

Geez, here we go again with the finding mate stuff!

Uncle Lynx shook his head, “No. she still hasn’t.” I froze at that statement. Could she be my..? I mean, there's the scent earlier!

I was quick to snap out before anyone could even notice. Let’s not get our hopes high.

‘But what if she is?’ Cerulean started.

‘What?’

‘She’s from this pack and you smelled it earlier remember?’

And so? I don’t get you, Cerulean.’

What I meant is that, due to her going out for a run, her scent which we smelled faintly earlier, is just her err, leftover and after being gone for how many hours disappeared.’

‘Leftover? Psh, what is her scent? A food?’ I couldn’t help but roll my eyes.

‘Whatever.’

Well, Cerulean does have a point there but then again and again, just like what I have said a while ago, let’s not get our damn hopes high.

As everyone was in the middle of a conversation while I’m just seated at mom and dad’s side, listening and thinking about a lot of things.

The doors suddenly opened which made everyone stop and turn their attention towards the person who just arrived.

The familiar scent from earlier then crept to my nose.

“Isha, sweetie, welcome back!” aunt Vantice greeted the newly arrived person which is a woman near my age.

The woman whom aunt Vantice called ‘Isha’ smiled mother sweetly, “I’m home, mom.”

She then took a glance at us, still with a smile plastered on her face. “Visitors?”

I couldn’t help but stare at her for a moment.

Is she my .. mate?
