The scent of freshly cooked Chocolate Chip Pancake drowning in maple syrup, my most favorite breakfast ever, greeted me at around 11:30 in the morning.
I was still wearing my Little Prince pyjamas and was positive that my hair still looked wonky and my glasses are still crooked because I just woke up around fifty seconds ago.
Downstairs, my not-so little brother Axel was holding a blue banner that says "Happy 18th Birthday, Ashley!". It looked almost identical to the one he held last year that I'm convinced they just edited the 7 to an 8 from the file that I even designed myself.
I hurriedly scrambled down the staircase while my parents held their arms open to pull me into a hug. They kissed both my cheeks and handed me their present.
They all sat down for lunch and I did for breakfast. Dad was babbling about something I'm not particularly interested in. My mind was focused on my meal when a clinking of metal rang in my ear. Slightly tilting my head, I blinked and rubbed my eyes tightly, then paused, not breaking my connection to the key my mom was shaking, my eyes widened and turned into a size of a tennis ball.
'No way.' I said, 'You have got to be kidding me, Mom.'
She laughed heartily. I glanced at my dad and he winked at me.
My lips slowly curved into a smile and I let out a squeal, breaking my almost permanent shocked face, and shoved myself into my mother's arms. 'Oh my gosh, thank you! You said I was too young to have a car!'
Dad raised his hands, not denying my accusation, and walked around the table to give me a kiss at the top of my head. 'That would ruin the surprise, won't it? Besides, you already have your license. I'm tired of you always borrowing my car.'
'When will I have my car?' Axel interrupted, pouting.
Mom crossed her arms together, 'You, young man, are riding with Ashley to school until you have good grades when you turn high school like she does.' Axel rolled his eyes and shook his head, chuckling. Probably excited with the idea of him having his own car. He then threw his badly wrapped present at me. It hit my chin but it didn't hurt, it felt rather squishy.
I tore the blue wrapper and it revealed two stuffed red dice that hang at the rear view mirror. I hugged it and ran towards him scrunching up my face and pinching his cheeks very hard.
I then ran outside and went straight to the garage to look at my new car. I stopped immediately at the doorstep. And there it was, a blue eon car. It's not as new as I imagined it to be, pretty sure it was second hand. Still, I am beyond amazed, wonderstruck even. My eyes twinkled as I imagine all the fun stuff my friends and I will have in there.
I quickly ran inside to go get my phone and tell them about it. I jumped on my bed and accidentally sent my purple stuffed giraffe flying.

My day went on normally, I received a ton of messages and tagged posts in my accounts, everyone I knew wished me a happy birthday. And it was.
I spent my morning (it was like 1-4PM because of my fucked sleeping routine this summer) with Mom, Dad, and Axel, all cuddled up in the family room. We ended up watching The Purge, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, and the first movie of The Chronicles of Narnia.
After three movies worth of popcorn and two and a half sticks of corndog, I though I could use some more food. I phoned my friends Sabrina and Todd to go to dinner with me, my treat for tonight.
The idiots took advantage of this and sent me a link of the website to this boujee restaurant downtown. Good thing I have money today so what better idea than to spend all of it stupidly?
