Chapter 4
Ayreth bolted up through the water, using the sand at the bottom as leverage to help boost her up. She moved- no, clawed, her way through. To hell with it all. It didn't matter that she kicked the stranger's head. Or that she might get caught.
Her hand was almost there, almost. Finally! She breached the surface. First, her fingertips, then the rest of her. She resurfaced like a dying animal as her lungs expanded into a coughing fit, almost hacking one out. When the horror show was over, she pulled her drenched mop of hair from her face and looked around, seeing nothing that indicated the wolves were still there except for the prints they left behind.
Giant, jagged, and messy. Even though they were both members of the Physicalli, subsection Ani (Ah-nee), it didn't mean anything. While her extra was a state of being, their's was shapeshifting.
She bolted from the water and tripped over herself, not caring about anything except getting away. In her struggle to escape, she gave no mind to the figure. Not caring about the noise she was making. Not giving a shit except to get away from the freak who she decided to help save.
What he did was not natural. Two extras were not unheard of, but to meet someone like that was astonishing. Ayreth herself was from the Physicalli (fee-zee-cah-lee), subsection Ani (Ah-nee). Her night vision was a physical extra, but unlike the Mako (May-ko), whom could physically do things such as flying and elemental control, she was stuck with a physical trait that was known as Being instead of Doing, making her an Ani over a Mako.
In order to control the darkness, he had to have either been also part of the Physicalli, or the Mentalas (Men-tah-lah-ss), controlling Ayreth's mind so she couldn't see his face. But he also was able to control the air, making him definitely a Mako. All this thinking was fucking with Ayreth's mind. She needed to ask Saros, her cousin, about what it could all mean. One thing Ayreth knew was this adventure was over and she was going home.
Lips still tingly from the nonkiss kiss, she scrambled her way out of the water and was on her way back home, not giving a shit about the stranger anymore. Only, her plans suddenly changed when a force grabbed her arm and pulled her back.
She gasped as she was swiveled around and gripped by the arms of the strange man. She stared at him through the hood, the darkness just as ominous as before. With her mouth open in a scream, she positioned her knee and thrust it up, aiming for the man's crotch. Like hell the son of a bitch was gonna touch her again.
Except, suddenly, she felt her tension ease away and her leg fell limply onto the sandbed. Feeling subdued, she stared. Confusion was a voice too low to be heard and fear was a ghost she couldn't see. All she knew was calm.
Suddenly, the darkness through the hood suddenly revealed something. Glowing green orbs started shining at her and that was the last thing she knew before she passed out.
Except for the parting words she could've sworn came from snakes.
"You will remember nothing."
---
Ayreth felt the burn of the sun as she ripped her eyes open. With her body sore all over, it took her awhile to get it to actually obey her command of "move!"
After finally being able to move, she got up from what was probably the worst hangover of her life. She looked around and realized she was by the river, her body positioned a few feet away from it. If she drank last night, this would've been one of the better stories to tell.
Only, she didn't drink; and she didn't forget. She remembered. She shook herself off, and started walking her way home. She knew to stay in the secluded areas where no one would wonder what the hell she was up. She made it home and was just about to scale up the tree when she heard a familiar voice-one she would've been happy to go about her life without ever knowing.
"Well, well, well, look what the roach coughed up," Shami'kal said.
Ayreth knew the sight she presented; dirty, gross, and...coughed up. Beautiful Shami'kal the perfect opposite; tall, clean, and refined. And an utter mother fucking bitch.
Don't turn around. Don't turn around. Don't turn around.
Teeth gritting, nails digging into both palms, entire body shivering- she resisted and continued on to the front door, not giving a damn about sneaking in anymore.
She was just about to turn the brass knob when she heard the words that got her to swivel her head around like an owl;
"Damn, Lika, I can't believe you ever dated that whore. What was the theme this time, Ayreth? Bookake? You certainly have enough crust on that cum cloth you're wearing to say you definitely were the star of the show."
Ayreth's breath hitched as she laid eyes on the duo. So, it was true.
Lika was here. And she was stunning as ever.
Shorter than both Shami'kal and herself, Lika was plentiful in the best way possible. Amethyst eyes, black hair, perfectly heart shaped lip.
Ayreth could remember all the encounters they had; the times rolling around in the grass in the dead of night, the fireflies and stars the only witness they had to the magic they shared.
The magic now tainted by Lika choosing Shami'kal over herself.
Even though they were far from being in love, betrayal still was a bitter tang in her mouth as she stared at their joined hands. While Shami'kal had taunting eyes, Lika's wistfulness was evident along with her disgust in what was just said.
Which was why without even thinking, Ayreth walked right up to Shami'kal and smiled.
"Yes, I loved every second of it. Even Lika did. She always loved what I did to her. Which is why she's not going to say no."
"No to what?" Shami'kal snapped.
Without paying any mind to the bitch, Ayreth turned to Lika and cupped the back of her head with my hand. Going slow enough that she could reject, Ayreth placed her lips on hers. She gasped and wrapped her arms around Ayreth. The two made out as Ayreth heard Shami'kal speak. She parted herself from Lika, her words aimed at both of them;
"Unlike you, I know what I want. Too bad you chose the bitch with the coin and threw away the bitch who stood by you when you were absolutely nothing. And if this is it, then you could still always join me for one of those parties." Ayreth winked.
Lika was too stunned to say anything.
Shami'kal was too stupid to even be alive.
And Ayreth really needed a bath now.
She turned away and said, "Now get the hell off my damn property unless you want Milan's pet to turn you into chowder."
Footsteps ran towards me and she was about to show them who the hell they were messing with until the sound of a screech blew my eardrops.
She turned around and saw Shami'kal right behind her, her face dripping with white stuff. Ayreth then moved my gaze to Lika-saw her wide eyes turn to a wheezy laugh. She looked up after she heard the sound of a familiar but actually welcome caw caw.
A brown and white hawk glided overhead, its eyes glowing red.
Ayreth smiled as she waved at her cousin Milan through her pet bird.
The smile was still there even after the tub she later laid in turned cold.
