I wake up in a white room.

Am I dead?

No. I can feel my heart beating.

There's other people that I don't know around me. They're dressed in white and have clipboards filled with various information scribbled in an indescribable format.

I gather enough strength to sit up. One of the nurses looks up at me, and is surprised. She frantically gets up, knocking her cheap pens she got from the nearest dollar general off of her desk. As she walks towards me I glance at a picture of her family that sits neatly by her computer. They look so peaceful. I wonder where my parents are, and my brother too. Maybe I'll ask her.

The lady walks over to me. Her name is Seiko, and it's clearly stated on her name tag. I try to talk but nothing comes out of my mouth. Just gusts of air. The lady tries to calm me down. I clear my throat enough to speak.

"Where am I?"

"Why sweetie, your in a hospital." Im not sick though. Suddenly all of the memories from 3 days ago make an appearance in my mind.

~flashback~

We all sat in the back of my mom's 2010 Kia, and listen to oldies. My family all together on our way to my grandmom's house in the upper region of SanFranSokyo. My mom turned the music up really high at the sound of her favorite song "love shack". So high that she didn't hear my dad scream the words "holy shit stop the car we're gonna crash". There was a screech and after that there was black.

~end of flashback~

I jolt up.

"My family, where is my family?! Are they okay?"

"Hold on a second honey, I'll be right back." The lady gets up, and I still don't have an answer. I wait patiently until an older lady who's name isn't visible walks into the room. She closes the curtains that surround the tiny space I have to call mine. She sighs under her breath and sits on the side of my bed.

"Hi dear, how are you." I reply with a good. I just want to know if everyone is okay.

"How are my parents and my brother?" I stare at the lady for a good two minutes until she speaks again.

"Well, Miss Kyoko.. I'm sad to say that your loved ones.. Well they've gone somewhere far beyond our reach." I look at her confused until I finally figure out what that means. My heart starts beating extra fast and I start shaking madly. The doctor just gives me a hug and with the gentlest voice whispers to me.

"Stay strong." I start to bawl my eyes out.

I, Anjuu Kyoko, at age 14, have just lost everything I know and love.

-4 years later-

"Anjuu! Time to wake up for school! How excited are you??" My grandma says as I rub my eyes.

"To be attending a new school? Oh I'm overjoyed." I yawn and get up from my bed.

"Aw don't be like that, I'm sure you'll be fine." My grandma pats me on the back. I've been living with her ever since the accident 4 years ago. I've been homeschooled since then, and I'm finally able to be around a lot of people without crying. So I guess I'm pretty excited. I shoo my grandma out of my room so I can get dressed in the school's uniform. Oh joy. It makes me look like a 10 year old. I brush the feeling off and continue getting ready. After 30 minutes I have my hair tamed and makeup applied. I then walk down to my kitchen and make myself some toast. As soon as I'm done I walk to school.

School isn't a long walk so I get there in no time at all. The school is massive! I stare in awe at all of the different buildings that make up Iwatobi High. I'm supposedly starting my year off as a 12th grader, so my classes are upstairs on the second floor of the building. I walk through the front doors to see some teachers directing all of the students to the auditorium where there is supposedly an opening ceremony. I walk in the auditorium and take my seat next to a short blonde kid.
