I walk home on the busy sidewalk from school with my sort-of- sister, Octavia. Why is she my sort-of-sister? Well, my real sister, Clarke, is dating Octavia's older brother, Bellamy. And since they've been dating for four years and Clarke, Bellamy, Octavia and I all live together, they're basically married, which makes Bellamy and Octavia my sort-of-siblings. I know the proper term in sister-in-law, or brother-in-law, but it's not as fun to say.
I live with Clarke instead of my parents because Clarke is currently studying to become a doctor in New York, and my mother works in Mount Weather hospital, quite a distance from New York. And my father is a patient in that hospital. He has been for almost half a year.
Anyways, my mother decided that there were better schools in New York, and since Bellamy has a stable job, as a lawyer, I should live with him and Clarke. And Octavia of course.
As soon as we get a street away from home, Octavia punches me in the arm, and says,"Race you home!"
People might think that since we're both seventeen that we're too old to race home like children, but it's fun.
"Ok," I say, putting my light brown hair in a ponytail. Octavia does the same with her dark hair, revealing her dark blue eyes. My eyes are simalar, except they are light blue, like Clarke's. Come to think of it, Bellamy's the only one at home with brown eyes. I got to remember to annoy him about that when we get home. "On your marks," I say, smiling, "get set, go!"
Octavia and I run, dodging people, objects and obstacles in our way. I see our house and with Octavia on my heels, I run up to the door, and slam my hand on it.
"I win." I say, panting.
Octavia comes up and stands beside me. She catches her breath, and opens the door. We walk inside, kick off our shoes, and see a crowd full of people sitting in the living room. Clarke and Bellamy's friends, I presume. They're both sitting on the sofa in the middle, turned just enough so that they can't see us, engaged in a conversation. Clarke's blonde curls cover the straps on her sky blue dress- wait what? Clarke's wearing a dress? She never wears dresses. Something fancy is going on, even Bellamy is dressed up, black pants, white shirt and a black blazer, though his brown curls are still a mess.
Octavia and I are just wearing jeans and a sweater.
I really don't want to get involved in this. I give Octavia a let's get out of here before someone notices and forces us to stay look, and we both try to sneak away slowly.
We succed, that is, until one of Clarke's friend's catches us.
"Hey girls!" She says. Her dark hair is long, almost down to her waist, and her brown eyes light up with excitement. "I'm Raven, you must be Ally and Octavia."
Damn it. Now we're involved. I open my mouth to answer something sarcastic, but Clarke looks at me and gives me a if you say anything stupid I swear I'll kill you look. Ah, sisterly love.
So instead I say, "Yes, I'm Ally, Clarke's sister, and this is Bellamy's sister, Octavia."
Octavia nods, and puts on a fake smile.
"Come join us," Clarke says, smiling. I know this party is special, but I also know she's telling me to join because she knows I'll hate it.
"Actually, Ally and I have homework-" Octavia tries, but Bellamy won't have it.
"Sit." He says sternly to both of us.
We sit across from them, and I scan the room. I notice a few, Finn, Raven, who introduced herself earlier, Murphy, Miller, Monroe, Harper, and I few others that I have absolutely no idea who they are. Jasper and Monty said earlier at school that they might come over later. I hope they will, I need to get out of this.
"What's all this?" Octavia asks, gesturing to the room.
Clarke smiles probably the brightest smile she's ever smiled in her whole life. She sticks out her hand, her ring finger decorated with a diamond. Wow. Her and Bellamy are engaged. I smile and hug her. "Congratulations, sis."
"Took you long enough Bell!" Octavia exclaims, laughing. "I was afraid I was gonna have to do it for you!"
"Watch it, O." Bellamy says.
He smirks, and kisses Clarke quickly.
Everyone engages in conversation again, and me and Octavia become extremely bored. Just then, I hear a knock on the door. I get up to answer it, but Bellamy beats me to it. He opens the door and I hear him almost interrogating the visitors. Being a lawyer plus an overprotective brother doesn't mix. I recognize the visitors' voices as Monty and Jasper, and I head to the door, and duck under Bellamy's arm that is resting against the doorframe. Monty has a guitar strapped on his back, Jasper has a mere tambourine.
"Come on in." I say, smiling.
Bellamy grabs my arm, and pulls me into the kitchen. "Who the hell are they?" He asks sternly.
"Monty and Jasper." I reply, yanking my arm from his grasp. "They're friends from school, here for music class practice."
"You're sure they're just friends?" He asks, looking me directly in the eye. "And they're just here for music practice?"
I sigh, frustrated. "Yes! Yeesh, you're not my dad, you're only my sort-of-brother."
"What?" He asks, clearly confused.
"Ugh!" I say, even more frustrated. "We all live together, you, Clarke, Octavia, and me. You and Clarke are basically married-actually are going to be married soon-so technically, you and Octavia are my sort-of-brother and sister. Understand?"
"It's not complicated." Octavia says from behind him, Jasper and Monty beside her. "Can we practice now, Bell?"
"Fine. Just-just, no doing anything." Bellamy says.
"Ew." I say, making gagging noises. "No offense guys." I say to Monty and Jasper.
Bellamy heads back into the living room, and Jasper, Monty, Octavia and I head upstairs to my room to practice. I close my door, and take out my guitar from my closet. We've decided on the song Fix You by Coldplay. Octavia is the lead singer, Monty and I play the guitar, and Jasper does whatever he does with the tambourine.
We practice for what seems like hours, and Jasper and Monty finally head home. Octavia heads to her room, and I flop down on my bed, about to welcome sleep, when the phone rings. Who's calling at 9:00? I check the caller ID.
Mount Weather Hospital.
