Failure

Darkness, I've always been surrounded by it. I've always been victim to darkness, I've always been alone. I've always been blind

To say the least, I'm surprised. I'm shocked Papa hasn't found out about it yet. Or maybe he knows but just hasn't reacted to it yet. I wish I could say I've lived my life looking over my shoulder....but when I turn my head I see the same thing. Pitch black

Thinking of it, I really should be glad they haven't found me out. Health check-ups always give me scares. I'm worried that my eyes won't adjust to the light. For some reason, they can still dilate

That and the fact I can't see where I walk. If I walk into a wall or trip on something I've downplayed it to being clumsy or not paying attention

So far the caretakers haven't batted an eye...perhaps that's because of my code number, 028.

Perhaps my only saving grace is my ability to pilot the Franxx. Whenever I connect it to, I can see. I don't know how...I just can. In the Franxx I feel free. I don't trip, I don't walk into walls. Instead, I pilot one of the most deadly weapons we have to kill monsters that hide.

In fact, I'm on a mission to terminate a group of them that have gotten to close to my plantation.

"You ready?" My female partner asks softly.

"Yes," I tell her as I follow the others

Plantation 38 is the host to 4 Franxx's: Concours, Flalinsa, Uirtil, and then mine, Destila

"Klaxosours is up ahead," Concours says as our team leader

"Copy," The rest of us say

As we get closer, I feel something. I've gained a lot of instinct due to my blindness. I can vaguely guess my surroundings through a feeling in the atmosphere. That along with memory where things should be is mainly how I walk around indoors at the plantation.

We reach where the dreadful creatures should be, but nothing....nothing in sight. Everyone looks around for any sign

"Where are they?" My pistil says

I think for a bit. Then, my instinct kicks in

"underneath!" I yell as I quickly pull Destila back just in time to avoid a giant Klaxosours suddenly appearing in below us. It appears to be a giant worm, and it caught the others completely off guard as he swallows them whole

Both myself and my partner were frozen in fear as we hear our teammates scream in agony...and then silence. We didn't notice the rest of the worm-like Klaxosours coming out off the ground. As Its body emerges it suddenly launches us into a cliff.

Upon impact, my partner screams in pain as my vision goes dark

"Code 234," I ask...no response. My guess is she was knocked out...im hoping it's nothing worse

I'm surrounded by darkness, with no connection to the Franxx, I am blind once again.

I can hear the Klaxosour roar which is followed by gunshots from the plantations turrets. The gunshots stop.....but the Klaxosour's roars continues.

I'm left in the darkness as the monster probably proceeds to rip into our plantation...I know we failed. Not even our 3rd mission as a team we have failed....and there won't be another mission for this team.

After the Klaxosour destroys our plantation, it goes silent, probably looking for its next victim.

The closest plantation I can think of is plantation 13.

I stay in the dark Franxx, or maybe it's illuminated? I'd never know

I wait for hours, in silence....alone

Finally, I can hear shuffling coming from in front of me...then cries and weeps follow suit. My pistil has awakened, and it appears she remembers everything

"Code 028, are you still alive," She asks grimly

"Yes," I say quietly

"Let's get that bastard Klaxosour," she says with hate in her voice

"It's been hours, and I smell magma energy so we must have punctured our fuel tank," I explain

"You can smell that?" She asks

"Yea," I say

"Do you think we should leave the Franxx," she asks

"We probably could, but I don't see a point in taking the risk," I tell her. I can feel her presence telling me she is confused

"There is no reason because all it will do is discourage us from the sight of our destroyed plantation," I tell her

I feel I answered her question

"So we just stay put," She asks me

"Yes, with any hope nearby plantations will investigate if they manage to survive that huge Klaxosour," I tell her

"Right," she says

"We may live for another day," she says tearing up after she remembers our teammates

"Thanks," She says facing me

"Had you not noticed the Klaxosour was below, we may have been caught up in the mouth of that monster too," she thanks me

"Yea, we made a promise when we were kids to have each other's back," I say remembering our days at the garden

Back then, I often ran into a lot of things, Code 234 helped me a lot. And I helped her by giving her someone to talk too. She always has been rather shy. We became closer and closer. I tried hiding my secret, but it didn't take her long to figure out I couldn't see

She swore to me to keep my secret, and we've been contacted by the hip ever since. In fact, I'm sure I couldn't have made it this far without her.

"Yea," She says remembering

We remained in silent...in fact I'm pretty sure she fell asleep again.

I guess I'll keep watch, I wouldn't be able to sleep anyway.

A few hours went by, in fact, I'm pretty sure it's been a day since the attack.

Just as my hopes were about to take a dive, I hear a sound. A sound of Franxx.

Code 234 noticed the sound as they got closer. Then they were right outside and we could hear them speak

"Delphinium! I think I found one!" We hear a Franxx say
