Chapter 3

It was dark and cold. I couldn’t really feel anything, I tried moving my arms and legs but to no avail. I just lay there not sure exactly of what happened. I soon felt the familiar searing pain shot up my side. I guess that's a good sign, it proves I'm not dead. I opened my mouth to scream but noting came out. I felt restless and slightly tired, but then I started hearing whispers.

“What if she doesn’t wake up” I heard a girl sobbing.

“Calm down Lana she will, she’s a strong girl”

"I know she is, but you remember what happened when we went to the waterfall ?"

"Yeah, I can never forget it, she was so young it shouldn't have happened to her, it was all his fault." I made out the voice as Jay, but suddenly the voice darkened, something that never happened to Jay's.

"That idiot if he only listened she wouldn't have gotten hurt. " A loud crack echoed through the room and I barely heard some one gasp.

It was at that moment when my eyes snapped open. Who was the girl they were talking about, was it me? An onslaught of nausea washed over me and I felt the bile rise in my throat. I managed to keep it down but it didn't help much.

After regaining some composure I slowly tried getting up into a sitting possession. Jay came to my side to help. After I managed to sit up, I whispered a thank you to Jay, but he didn't respond, just simply walked away.

I noticed what looked to be a collapsed desk in the corner but before I could ask my vision was obscured by Lana.

“Oh my god you're awake” Lana beamed and practically attacked me in a hug. All the effort it took me  to sit up just went to waist.

“Lana…can’t breathe…..release.’’ I managed to choke out.

“Sorry Zoe I’m just so glad you’re awake.”

"Me too, for a few seconds I thought i was dead." I said trying to lighten the mood, But with the  looks  I got it was safe to assume it was a poor choice in words.

I saw Jay stiffen and a grim line replaced his shadows lips.

"How could you joke about that Zoe, do you know .." She was interrupted when Jay cleared his throat. I just managed to see the look he threw at her.

"I'm sorry Lana I won't joke like that again, i'm sorry." Lana slowly let go of me and nodded her head.

There was suddenly a thick layer of tension in the air, and I felt stifled. I caught a glimpse of the desk again and opened my mouth to ask but was interrupted when Lana's alarm went off. Due to the fact Lana has very poor time management she sets an alarm every time she has something to do.

She pulled her phone out from her pocket and and shut the alarm off.

"Sorry i can't stay longer guys but I need to go." With that and a final goodbye she left me alone with Jay.

He still hadn't said a word to me, and he would not make eye contact. Suddenly I felt really jealous of Lana. I finally had enough of it and broke the silence.

“Jay whats wrong and don't bother trying to lie.’’ There was a short pause and i was going to ask again when he blew up.

“Oh well i'm sorry that my best friend suddenly fainted out of firkin nowhere and scared the living be-Jesus out of me, those things tend to get to people Zoe!”

I was shaking, I don't typically see Jay this ticked off and when I do it's not usually towards me. Jay's face contorted into one of anger to one of shame.

“I'm sorry Zoe I didn't mean to yell, it's just I was scared." He begin to lower his head but I stopped him with a comforting hand on the shoulder.

"Jay it's fine you had a right to be scared, hell I would of been freaking out too if it was you or Lana. so don't go beating yourself up for it."

"Thank you Zoe" I pulled him in for a hug that lasted sometime. But pulled away when I remembered the broken desk.

"Hey um Jay do you mind explaining why that desk looks like it's been trampled by rhinos?" He gave off a slight blush and smiled.

"I lost my temper is all."

"Remind me to never get on you bad side." I said with a laugh. I got off the bed and stretched my sore limbs hearing a few pops along my spine.

“Hey Jay can I stay over tonight”

“Course’’

"Thanks,so Jay how long was I out?”

“Um a couple hours I think” I glanced at the clocked and my eyes bugged out of my head.

“A couple hours my butt it’s 9:43 at night.”

“Okay maybe you were out for a little more than seven hours.”

I flopped back down on the bed and tried to stifle a yawn. How is it possible for me to still be tired? Jay came over and sat next to me on the bed.

“You’re tired, you should get some rest.’’

“I know but will you sleep with me?’’ He nodded; we would usually share a bed when one of us slept over.

“Wait can I get some pj’s?” He got up and handed me some sweats and an over-sized t-shirt. I changed in the bathroom, then got under the covers and curled up next to Jay. I felt his body heat radiating through his clothes. He kissed the top of my head and whispered good night.

“Goodnight Jay.”

I went to sleep that night, my mind completely blank and my body not entirely sore.
