"What do you mean you found something?"
"I ran some blood work after her surgery just to make sure there wasn't anything left behind or that would impact her recovery when I got an alert of previous blood work that had been done."
"Did you get an answer to what it was?" He shook his head at me looking out the window to make sure no one was in the hall.
"That's the thing, when I called her doctor to ask about it they kept hanging up on me and the call stopped going through after a while. There's something she doesn't want people to know about her."
"Thanks for letting me know." I waited for him to walk back into the hallway before I slumped into the chair beside me. I had barely met the girl and she had already taken over my life.

"I thought I told you not to get into any more trouble." He was laughing as he entered my room.
"Hey, this wasn't my fault." When he finally reached my bed he noticed Matthew was still asleep on my lap.
"Zoe, take Matthew back to the house. I'm sure the good doctor will kick us out soon so Marina can get her rest." Zander scooped Matthew up and walked Zoe to the door as she was still saying her goodbyes.
"Zander, what are you really doing here?" My question didn't surprise him, he knew what I was implying. He avoided my gaze and went to the window, I was about to ask him again when he finally turned to look at me.
"I told you before that the family would always protect you, and that's what we're doing." He looked back out the window before coming over to the bed. "Matthew had also been asking to see you and he wasn't too happy that we weren't back before you made your way out here."
"And how does she feel about that?" I saw him wince at the mention of his wife.
"You know I don't tell her anything," he was trying to laugh it off, "besides what good would it do either of us if she knew I was here?
"She's your wife and she knows the family business, she's going to figure out where you are. You could have just sent Zoe and Matthew out here."
"You and I both know why I couldn't do that." He was right but I didn't want to admit it to him.
"Do you know who did this to me yet?"
He gave a heavy sigh before turning back towards the window, "I wish I had an answer for you but I don't. I've had my men working on it since it happened to find who was behind it but they haven't found anything. Whoever it was knew exactly what they were doing."
"What information do you have on Beck?" I was scared to know the answer, but I needed to know who she was.
"Are you sure you want to know?" Concern was written all over his face, as much as he didn't want to tell me I knew that he would. I never got my answer though because Dr. Graves came in.
"Sorry to interrupt but I have to take Marina back for some tests before releasing her." Zander gave me one last look before heading to the door.
"Alright Doc, what tests do you have to run?" He waited until Zander was back in the hallway before answering me.
"I really only have one question for you before I sign off on your release."
"Okay-" I could feel my heart racing, my palms getting sweaty. I knew what he was going to ask me but I tried to keep my expression calm. "- what's your question?"
"The little boy out there, is he your son?"
