Chapter 1
It had been a week. Only three more to go until the election. Shifting had been on and off. A lot. My parents were starting to get worried. I had to tell them sooner or later. All the other wolves had, I just didn't know how to do it and get it right.
School was a bitch. Well, it was until I could control when I wanted to shift. Right now it was kind of just hit and miss. I could tell when I was going to change - it felt like being sick. I must tell my teachers that I'm sick a lot; kind of like once every day, or less if I was lucky.
I scoped out my pack at the far table in to corner of the cafeteria, chatting and eating. They looked just like normal kids at this highschool, but everyone sure was afraid of them. It was nice in a way, because then they couldn't ask us any questions about it. We weren't supposed to reveal anything... there were rules. Bottom line? The pack ruled the school.
I grabbed my lunch and made my way over to the table. There were ten wolves in the pack: Me, Rose, Cher, Maria, Jocelyn, Zac, Ezra, James, Justin, Zayn.
"Hey Lyric!" Cher said, a huge smile on her face. She had dark brown hair and an inviting smile.
"Where have you been, girl?" Maria asked, anxious. Her face was framed with bouncy, strawberry blonde curls.
"I was just kind of walking around. Wasting time," I answered.
"Well, quit it!" Rose insisted. She was my best friend in the pack; we had been best friends even before we were bitten. Rose pin straight, dirty blonde hair.
"Seriously," Jocelyn said. "Sit down! We need to talk." She always wore big rings, and was totally into accessories - her bubbly personality matched her fiery red hair.
I obeyed, taking my seat in between Zac and Ezra, Rose directly across from me. "What is it?"
Cher sighed, putting her hands on top of mine. "There's some bad news - we have a new guy." My mouth gaped open. They seriously did that?
I turned and stared at Zayn. If there was anyone to blame for this, it would totally be him. He was the most out of control wolf, in the best possible way. "Zayn! You didn't honestly bite someone, did you?"
"No!" he reassured me, shaking his head ferventy. "He's not a wolf. He's something else, we just don't know what yet. Cher can tell though. She told us there was something up with him."
I took a bite out of my apple with anxious eyes. "Are you sure?"
"Positive," Cher said, looking me straight in the eyes. She wasn't lying.
"Guys, stop being so hard on him," Maria piped up. "He's damn hot!"
I giggled, now wanting to see this guy more than ever. Zac choked on his sandwich though - it made the rest of the guys laugh. Maria always said things like that. He was still coughing as he reached for his water. After taking a few gulps, he responded, "Maria. We don't know what he is."
Rose grinned. "That still doesn't change the fact that he's super sexy."
Jocelyn punched her in the shoulder, and they both giggled. Zac was still clearing his throat, and he glared at Rose with a sarcastic look in his eyes. She grinned, rolling her eyes.
They had me curious now. A super hot super natural. Where was he? Where had they seen him? Did he go to our school?
There weren't too many supernaturals in this town. It was a small community, and with a name like Rave Ridge, it didn't necessarily attract too many people. One thousand people lived here last time I checked - well, maybe one thousand and one now. If they were even right about it, which they probably were, knowing Cher. The thought of a paranormal just wandering around the Ridge sent a chill up my spine.
