Only Hers

Chapter 17

In all the years they are married, this is the first time they didn't sleep cuddling. He is here lying in the bed with Alice and the kids between them but he kept his distance. Star is hugging her and Gylsen kept his hand on holding Aqui that is on top of Ylsen. The toddler seemed tired and didn't woke up eversince she fell asleep in the forest. They just cleaned her and let her sleep in her father's arms.

She feel so down right now. She know he is not asleep. She wanted to talk to him but she still don't know what to say. Saying sorry will never be enough.

She atleast wanted him to touch her, comfort her. She died you know. But that would be selfish.

She felt him move so she closed her eyes to pretend to be sleeping. She felt him get off the bed and walked towards the door. It took a lot of courage for her to get up and follow him.

She found him in the kitchen feeding Aqui some mashed potatoes. She still seem sleepy but eats up all the food her daddy is giving her. Ylsen is talking to the girl in hushed tone and whatever they are talking about is making the drowsy kid giggle and his eyes lightens up as he watch his daughter happy.

She don't want to ruin their moment. She backed away and went to the kid's playground. When she saw the playground earlier, her heart felt gloomier. She have precious memories there and now it is a mess.

The things are either completely broken and some fortunate just toppled down.

She walked around and noticed thatvthere are more guards stationed around the mansion now. Not that she is complaining. It was reassuring. But it is kinda creepy for her. She have to get used to it.

She sat on one of the benches and looked afar. Her eyes landed to the woods. She saw more royal guards standing by and put up camps meters away. They are order to guard the forest and never let anyone pass unless ordered by the king.

When they arrived earlier, most of the guests are escorted back to their homes. Only few remained, mostly her former coworkers waiting for them to return and when they saw her safe, they let the palace guards lead them home.

The vampire king discussed things with Ylsen and Felix. The whole kingdom is on high tier lockdown under the suspicion of war. When said whole kingdom, even the most remote regions. No one goes in and out.

The king declared total protection to the animals they rescued from the poachers. Not only the wolves.

They are still gathering more information but there are intel that they already got. A ship arrived at the port under the cover of a circus. So they can have permit to cargo animals. But that is just the front. They took nearly a hundred of polar wolves from the cold south regions of another nation.

They still don't know why and who made them do it since the the remaining alive poachers are being interrogated back at the hottest dungeon in Articia located in the highest tower and made with glass. It only have four pairs of tiny holes in each floor and if directed to sun, it will be too hot inside and prisoners can't breathe. It is much like an oven tower. They stay there until they toast or spill what they know.

Her eyes remained on the woods and see the wolves running around, maybe hunting for food. She did notice some of the being malnourished earlier. Her jaws clenched at the thought that they are starved in the boat.

Something white and big speeding up against the trees caught her eyes. The truth is, she wanted to go and see the wolf upclose. She wanted to meet her because she can feel a big connection to it. She is thinking it might be her real wolf. Her other true half. But then Ylsen is also her other half. Both in wolf sense or human sense.
