"Good Evening, welcome to Mayonaka bakery and cafe! How can I help?" you smile up at the customer who stopped at the counter, quickly adjusting your cap which held the establishment's logo embroidered on the front.
The tall blond answered without missing a beat, "Strawberry shortcake and a black coffee with one sugar, please."
You weren't surprised. Over the past few months or so when you'd work your shifts at the cafe part-time after school, the blond, without hesitation, always came in and ordered the same. Some days he'd be dressed in his school uniform -you weren't sure which one- and others he'd be in gym attire. Not often, but every couple of weeks, he'd come in on weekends usually with three other boys and sit in and study with them or on his own. It was odd watching a guy so reserved and blunt interact with three who were more bubbly and loud. You couldn't help but wonder how such unlikely friendships came about.
Grabbing one of the cardboard cups as to already assume his answer, you asked "Take out or in?"
His lip quirked slightly at you reaching for the takeout cup. "Out, please."
Turning and setting the machine in motion, you rattled off the price in your head before turning to register. "Five-hundred and thirty yen."
Handing you the exact change in silence, he walked off to the end of the counter as you went about taking a strawberry shortcake from the display window and placing it in a small box. The quiet hum of the coffee machine kept the shop from being completely silent which put your mind at ease. Bar the blond, there was nobody else in the bakery-part-cafe and usually, you wouldn't mind however as the day turned into night quicker with every rise and fall of the sun, you found yourself dreading being alone.
Like the name suggested, this place was open until midnight and recently you were entrusted to close the place as the owner took ill. You were inclined to decline but learning he had no next of kin to take over, you could only say yes. He wasn't cruel though and was in the process of hiring someone older to take over the closing shift. Luckily it wasn't far off closing, half ten at night on a Saturday.
After pouring the drink and adding the sugar, you picked up his box with the sweet treat in it and slide them over the counter. "Have a nice night!" you cheered with a smile. He sent a nod your way and was off.
A sigh left your lips as you watched him leave.

Over the next few weeks, you had worked up some courage to ask the blond some questions about himself. You learned his name was Tsukishima Kei and that he attended Karasuno and was a first year. In return, you had given him your name and told him you attended Aoba Johsai and were also a first year.
It was currently the weekend and for once you weren't working the closing shift as the owner was with you today. The place opened at 12 and closed at 12 and you luckily only had a 6-hour shift.
"Kubo-san?" you called into the back where said Kubo was busy cleaning.
He shot you a smile, the copious amounts of wrinkles that emerged a telling sign of a happy life. "Yes, (l/n)-chan?"
Walking towards him, your hands in the pocket of your apron, you noticed how your notebook was out on one of the counters. Your eyes widened, hoping Kubo hadn't seen or -God forbid- gone through it.
