Wanyūdō resemble burning cart wheels with the tortured-looking face of a man in the center. The head often appears shaved much like a monk's.
This dangerous yōkai patrols roads in search of people to bring to the underworld. It normally targets wicked people, but it has been known to go after normal people as well. Thankfully, all one has to do to avoid being taken to the underworld by this yōkai is to stay away from the road when it is traveling on it.
Unfortunately, this yōkai is more than willing to cause harm to those who even look at it.There once was a woman who peeked through her window while this yōkai was passing by outside. When she returned her attention to her baby, she discovered it laying in blood with its legs missing. The wanyūdō had taken the baby's legs and, when she looked back at the yōkai after seeing the damage it had caused, it ate them while she watched.
FUN FACT: Wanyūdō are thought to be the spirits of monks who sinned in life. Once they have taken enough souls to the underworld as penance for the sins they committed, they permanently go to the underworld themselves.
