Later that evening Nikki and Jack have just been introduced to the potential surrogate mother of their child along with a member of the team from the IVF and surrogacy clinic. Nikki and Jack sit together while the team member who is talking them all through what will happen. "So obviously we shall we using both Intended parents' sperm and egg to create the embryo, and although Rachel will be carrying this baby for you this will be your child and Rachel will be purely here to carry the child. As you are already aware Rachel has agreed to any medical examinations and scans that you will require" Sharon speaks.
Nikki and Jack nod as the listen to her, although Jack has been taking part more and listening more to what Sharon has to say, "So, when will we be able to begin this process?" Jack asks and he looks down at his lap to see Nikki pull her hand free of his.
"We will just require you to sign our contract and agree to all the T's and C's," Sharon speaks with a smile.
"And the expense?" Nikki chips in.
Sharon looks down at her notes writing something down before looking back up at the couple, "Well as you know London surrogacy clinics are considerably more expensive, with fees around £25,000, this would include egg and sperm donation, fertilization and the embryo transfer. Although you will be required to pay Rachel for the surrogacy once the baby is born" Sharon explains and Jack and Nikki nod as the glance at Rachel.
Jack then looks at Nikki who is now looking at her lap again as Sharon speaks up again, "Mrs. Hodgson I do have to remind you that you must be one hundred percent on this..." Sharon reminds Nikki noticing she doesn't seem to be reacting much to the processes moving along to them potentially having a baby within the next year.
"Nik?" Jack speaks as he turns in his chair to face her. He knew just from her breathing she is about to cry. He gently puts his hand on Nikki's thigh and she just looks at it her breathing becoming heavier.
"Sorry... I can't do this..." Nikki speaks and gets up unexpectedly gets up from her seat and grabs her handbag before leaving the room. Jack watches her leave the room and then looks back at Sharon and Rachel.
"Maybe we should convene when your wife has made her mind up if she wants to go through with this instead of wasting our time?" Sharon speaks.
Jack looks at Sharon, "I'm so sorry, My wife... Nikki has had to deal with a lot over the past few years of us trying for a baby, I'm so sorry for wasting your time," Jack speaks as he gets up and grabs Nikki's coat which she has left behind. Jack then leaves the room and heads out the building to find Nikki sat on a bench outside near their car.
"Nikki!" Jack speaks as he jogs over to her, Nikki wipes her face and looks away from Jack. "What the hell happened in there?" Jack questions.
Nikki wipes her face again as the tears slip freely down her face, "Nothing" She mumbles.
"Nik, hun... look at me" Jack sighs as he sits down beside her and attempts to take hold of Nikki's hand but she snatches it away. "Nikki, I want to help you, I love you... but they think we're wasting their time in there, we need to think this through."
"I want a baby Jack... why can't you see that" Nikki speaks as she begins to cry more.
"Of course I can Nik, but you are pushing away the potential, I want to hold our baby in my arms just as much as you do, but Rachel... Rachel wanted to help us" He speaks and strokes her hand.
Nikki wipes her face again and bites her lip as she looks up at the sky, "No Jack, you don't get it I want a baby..."
"Nikki, what don't you understand? Rachel was going to carry our baby for us... our baby..." He speaks edging closer to Nikki.
"No, I want to carry my baby, I want to feel close to him or her, feel them move, know he or she is safe and well inside me..."
Nikki looks at Jack and wipes her face again and Jack just looks at her sympathetically, they fall silent for a moment while Jack thinks, "...Nikki, I'm going to drive us home, and then I'm going to pack a bag-" He begins.
"No, you are not leaving me" She speaks her voice breaking with emotion.
"We need a break" Jack responds as he gets up and walks across the path to where their car is parked. "Get in" He speaks and unlocks his car before running his hand through his hair. Nikki wipes her face and obliges gets up and walks to the car before climbing into the car.
