Marinette groaned at her alarm clock.

Why did it sound different today?

She gasped as she sat straight up in bed, throwing Plagg off her stomach, who then fell into her lap, and she bolted to a standing position.

It was Adrien's birthday.

There was no way she'd be able to hand him his gift directly!

She climbed down hurriedly and looked at the box in her desk. Or could she?

She got ready really quick, heading back up to her loft to grab her phone, Plagg, and the textbook she left up there from some late night studying.

She glanced at herself in her body length mirror. She wore some red high top converse today, her regular pink jeans but unfolded so there was no cuff, and she wore a black jagged stone hoodie, Plagg flying to land in the folds of the hood part. Marinette was undecided what to do with her hair, and simply decided to put it all up into a bun.

She'd dress nicer, but previous timeline Adrien's words rang through her skull and heart, piercing her through and through.

She had no right to look nice for Adrien.

She picked up the gift box, looking at it once again and wondering if it was even worth it to give it to him?

Then she remembered that he thought he got it from his father and was so happy with it. She'd let him continue to think that.

So she put the box in her bag and walked down the stairs and into the kitchen. Both her parents were already in the bakery now so she had the freedom of packing Plagg's snacks.

Aka cheese.

Stinky, rotting cheese.

She grabbed a whole wheel of Camembert and another few pieces of some other similar cheese they had in their fridge and placed them in her tiny purse bag. Plagg flew out and floated beside her as she grabbed her breakfast of a croissant and a pear and walked out of the apartment.

"You're so down today kitten. What happened to the upbeat mood of the past week?" Plagg asked her, almost sounding concerned.

"It's just... it's Adrien's birthday today and I knitted him a scarf but I don't think I'll be able to hand it to him. I'll probably end up putting it in his mailbox at his house or something.." Marinette trailed off, adding the again in her head. "Maybe I'll go during lunch..."

"Oh come on kitten," Plagg said, floating in front of her face as she walked, "why won't you try give it to him directly?"

She grinned at the little kwami, "oh Plagg, are you concerned about me?" She asked as she rounded the corner to one of the last few flights of steps. Plag sputtered and stayed in one spot. Marinette turned to face him from the next platform down.

"Of course I'm not. I'm just annoyed that you're bringing down the whole mood for today, and it barely even started!" He crossed his little arms and huffed. Marinette laughed at him.

"Okay Plagg, i'll try. For you." Marinette said and tapped her hood, "now come hide, Plagg." Plagg flew over and settled within her hood, relaxing down for a catnap. He remembered today, the day Adrien was happy his father got him something other than a pen.

So it was from Marinette huh?

Marinette kissed her parents cheeks as she left for school, walking out of the bakery and greeting the few regulars that she knew. As Marinette crossed the road she was grabbed by an unstoppable force: Alya.

Alya said a quick good morning and rushed to the staircase, hiding in the bushes by it. She peeked over it at Adrien and Nino who were talking together as they stood on the steps and Marinette crouched down, slipped her bag off her back, and leaned against the wall.
