i squeezed the tablet, trying to gain as much information as possible. i re-read the page as much as i could. even though i graduated top of my classes, reading was always a struggle for me.
i tried to focus, but the words from the tablet would scramble my brain. i rubbed my temples, but did not give up hope. reading from a tablet was definitely new to me. the pixels and brightness from the screen would trip me out, but i'm still new so asking for a paper of all the information about this unsub would be too demanding of me.
"burnette, are you okay?" morgan asked, patting my back comfortably. i look up and chuckle.
"yeah- i'm fine. long night, that's all."
"long night, you say?" morgan laughed and winks at me, the rest of the group sitting around the circular table try to hold in their laughter. i try to avoid my burning cheeks, and i hide my face in embarrassment.
"n-no! not like that!" i squeak, and they all laugh at how high-pitched my voice was.
"enough. this is serious." hotch interrupted, causing everyone to look up at him and act sensible. i could hear heels clicking in the distance which caught my attention. looking to where the noise was coming from, i saw a tall raven haired woman.
"prentiss, i hope you enjoyed your vacation." rossi greeted the raven haired woman. she nodded, and greeted the small group back.
everyone sat down, and was ready to learn more about the recent murders down in charlottesville.
"neighborhood massacre. five brutally murdered, two stabbed, three shot to death." penelope spoke up, fixing her glasses.
"that's a high body count." prentiss said, a worried expression taking over her serious face.
"a gun and a knife? that's unusual..." reid questioned, and jj interrupted him stating that it could be two killers.
"well, was there any surveillance footage? especially in a neighborhood, there has to be at least some type of security system." i asked, playing with my pen. i had the urge to click the pen repeatedly, but luckily i didn't do it because it would annoy literally everyone in the room.
"this isn't a neighborhood massacre, it's a trailer park massacre. half of them can't even pay for child support, so how are they going to pay for a security system?" morgan retorted, crossing his arms on his chest.
"how is it that no one heard; or saw anything?"
"this killer was obviously prepared. organized. he must've kept his emotions inside." prentiss said. this prentiss girl is very smart. i'm not going to lie, but she's very intimidating as well.
"the high body count indicates a hell of a lot of rage." rossi claimed.
"the trailer park was known to be suspicious of containing or hiding drugs." i say, remembering the information from the tablet. "maybe it was an unhappy client?"
"i don't know. but your friendly neighborhood genius girl, will find out." penelope said. you can see in her face that these cases really get to her.

"so, are you enjoying your lunch?" reid asked, as i was stuffing my face with my subway sandwich.
i quickly chewed and swallowed my meal, and began talking.
"yes. very good." i chuckle, and wipe the sides of my mouth with a napkin.
"you know you don't have to lie." reid leaned on my desk and i looked at him in confusion. "today, when we were talking about the trailer park massacre. you struggled reading from the tablet because you're used to reading off a paper. you don't like the brightness of the screen, and it makes you feel a little bit nauseous holding such an expensive device."
i laugh in embarrassment, "right...i forgot you guys can analyze me every now and then."
"y'know i asked for paper. you're not alone in this boring, cruel world." reid says and he walks away, biting into an apple he stole from morgan's desk. i can tell those two have some boy drama between them.
i watch reid walk away and plop into his chair.
i hate his stupid smug smile. i think i hate it so much, that i'm starting to like it a little.
