You know how people say "don't judge a book by its cover?"
Well in the real world, we do judge a book by its cover, ESPECIALLY here on Wattpad.
In fact, I actually recommend judging a book by its cover on Wattpad. Because this shows if the author really put effort into the cover.
The cover plays a huge part in a book.
This is what the readers see first and what they judge first. They see wether you've taken time on it, or if you just placed a few words on a Google photo.
I understand that not everyone is a graphic designer, but here are some tips on how to have a decent cover.
HELPFUL APPS:
- PicsArt
- Canva
- VSCO
- Snapseed ( I don't use this app, but I've heard really good things from it )These are some apps that I've used and still use now. They are really helpful and high quality!
GET HD PHOTOS
Get HD ( high definition ) photos. That way your covers don't look blurry or pixelated. I recommend using any photoshoot photos, wether it's from a magazine shoot, album, or jacket photo shoots ( etc... )
DONT ADD CRAZY FONTS
I've seen so many covers that have colorful cursive writing, which people won't be able to read and it just looks messy overall.
The words have to fit with the background color and picture.
So keep it simple. When you're done with your cover, ask yourself and friends if they would read this if it was on a shelf. :D
COVER SHOPS
Designing covers isn't for everyone, and that's very understandable. That's why people here on Wattpad who love to design have created books just for the Wattpad authors who don't think they can create a good cover.
Which by the way, you get better as time goes by. Looking back at my old covers I don't know what I was thinking lol but good apps and good tips always help.
These are some examples of what not to do:
^^ i love this
so much lmao
