We headed our way towards Jersey Shore, which is where the party was located at, Cameron had on sunglasses so I couldn't tell what he was thinking. I didn't really care, but then again, I did care. The locals call the beach Catnip Bay, since two chicks got high, and ended up in a cat fight over a man. Ever since then, it's been known for Catnip Bay. Originally called Jersey Shore, but whatever I guess.
Cameron and I met at daycare, our parent's were best friends so we were always together. He's been there for me and I've been there for him. I think of Cameron as a second brother to me, since my other one isn't around any more. The sound of waves from the ocean pulls me back to reality.
I could hear music playing and people screaming and laughing, colorful umbrella's where put up, and the weather was perfect for this. " Hey Cameron, who'd you bring?" I heard someone come up behind us, turning around I see a short blonde, in an orange bikini, barefooted, she was pretty, and probably good at playing guys.
" Hey Meghan, this is Melanie, she's a good friend of mine, I don't think you two have ever met before."
A smile stretched across Meghan's face, naughty looking, ready for action, " Hi Melanie, I'm Meghan, my friends call me Meg though, so your welcome to it as well. Cameron, we're getting ready to play volleyball down there, wanna join?" I had a fake smile on my face, knowing that this night, is going to be a challenge.
We all headed down to the Beach and sat our stuff down on a chair that was laid out by a umbrella. " I'm gonna go and play volleyball with the others, wanna come?" I shake my head, hoping on finding my other best friend, Nikki. I walk over to a group of girls and search their faces, the girls all look at me like I'm stupid and to get away. I ignore them, not worrying about their opinions.
" Hey! Melanie!" I hear and turn around, Nikki is running towards me with arms open, I walk towards her with a smile on my face. We come together and hug, Nikki's perfume smells amazing, like vanilla with a hint of cinnamon.
I step back, and Nikki asks, " I'm surprised to see you here." I laugh and we walk along the ocean, waves hitting our feet. " Well, Cameron asked me if I wanted to come, so here I am, and I usually go. My mom is working extra tonight, and my dad isn't ever home."
I watch Nikki, as her head nods in understanding. She's a really good listener, and talker, but she understands a lot of things that I don't, which is one of the reasons why she's my best friend.
Nikki and I met in 3rd grade, she was playing pretend and I joined her, soon we were playing like best friends, after that, we've been inseparable. " Well, my mom is sick, some sort of bug I guess. I saw this really cute guy at the Cafe Inn and we made eye contact." Nikki makes this finger sign, like eyes on you type of thing.
" Nikki, honey you guys aren't going to happen, you know that right?" I say, use to this type of stuff when it comes to Nikki.
Nikki stops in front of me and smiles, " I've missed you, hey, do you wanna spend the night at my place tonight? We could catch up on things and all that stuff, plus I need to go shopping for grocery's, we have nothing at my place." Nikki's eyes go wide, waiting for an answer.
" Sure, I'll have to ask my mom but yeah, I'm sure I can go" Nikki smiles and we continue walking.
I look over to my right, where the volley ball game is in session, Cameron is on the opposite side of Meg. He's really good at the game, and he doesn't even play volleyball most of the time. He does baseball and Swim. Nikki and I walk pass them and one of the players yell for Nikki.
Nikki's head shoots up and looks their direction. " Yeah?" She asks, " Come over here and show these losers how to play" a guy with blonde hair and blue trunks demands.
